One boat out of how many? From BBC News page online,
"The latest Home Office data show 705 migrants in 12 boats arrived in Dover on Tuesday - the highest daily figure so far this year.
It brings the total for 2025 to 8,888 people, a rise of 42% on the same period last year."

UK and France in talks over migrant returns deal
The scheme would return illegal migrants who cross the Channel in exchange for the UK taking legal migrants.www.bbc.co.uk
No sign of women and children on that boat.!
Anyway, back to the R Madrid v Arse.
Your idea of striking a deal with France wouldn't have become necessary if it wasn't for brexit as we were signatories to the Dublin 3 Regulation but now we're not part of the EU, we don't have any of its benefits. Part of Dublin 3 was to distribute asylum seekers across all EU member States to be processed.Replying to myselfBecause I’ve just had an idea, I think the only way to do it safely, would be to strike a deal with France, that anyone who comes across in a dingy, could be returned straight away. A few months of doing that, and I think the boats would stop.
Why would the French stop them? Is leaving their country in a boat illegal? If most of those arriving on our shores wanted to go straight through onto Ireland or Iceland, I'm sure we'd be more likely to help them than stop them.I just googled that, is it right they use an island as a processing centre? At a cost of nearly 5 billion? Not sure of the number’s Australia gets, but if we adopted a policy like that in this country, I would think the cost would be a lot higher, just by the sheer volume of numbers arriving. Ultimately I blame the French, these dinghies arriving, are not isolated incidents, there must be around 30 plus leaving the French shores each day, and it’s not even summer yet. They must be held responsible,
Of course it is illegal to cross the channel in the way they are.Why would the French stop them? Is leaving their country in a boat illegal? If most of those arriving on our shores wanted to go straight through onto Ireland or Iceland, I'm sure we'd be more likely to help them than stop them.
Exactly. Why would the French stop them? Is leaving their country in a boat illegal? If most of those arriving on our shores wanted to go straight through onto Ireland or Iceland, I'm sure we'd be more likely to help them than stop them.
When you consider we agreed to give France 500 millions euros over three years to build detention centres in France and fund patrols in 2023, they should be doing hell of a lot more.Exactly.
Our patriots would hardly be gutted by the prospect of them jumping in a dingy and off to their next adventure.
The point of being in a collective like the EU is that you have agreements to have a collective response ie Dublin agreement as another poster mentioned.
France has literally no incentive to help now.
Oh ffs what’s the point, if you still support Brexit then I don’t know what more can be said. I feel sorry for you.

Funnily enough, this popped up on Twitter, yesterday i think. It sort of emphasises my thoughts, that Plaid will just be the same as Labour, if not worse!! So who are we really left with?It takes a special way of thinking to look at the current Conservative Party and at the carnage of 2010 to 2024 and come to the conclusion that “yes, that’s definitely the party for me”.
Plus someone in the last government agreed to pay the French 500 million to sweeten the deal.Of course it is illegal to cross the channel in the way they are.
The French should be doing more to stop them as agreed by both governments.
And how the French laughed at them.Plus someone in the last government agreed to pay the French 500 million to sweeten the deal.
Many are laughing at our out of depth PM and Chancellor. And how the French laughed at them.

If they entered France from another EU country, that would not be illegal if they had valid passports but the French are probably more than happy to get rid of them just as we would be so don't pour scorn on the French for doing something we would never dream of doing, that's pure hypocrisy. If we had lots of people in our country trying to get to France by whatever means, do you honestly belive we'd try to stop them and say "oh, hang on mate, you can't leave, it's illegal and the French say we are obliged to keep you here" ? You're having a laugh if you think that would happen.Well I believe, they should take a lot of the blame, I mean they let them into France in the first place, then it seems let them do what they want. I remember a few year back, of lorry drivers in Calais and there were literally hundreds trying to jump on the lorries.
They are practically aiding and abetting it, by doing hardly anything to prevent it.
