What are we really expecting from Matos....

We also need a creative midfielder and, to be honest, we need a new centre forward if this is the style Matos is after. Vipotnik, for all he’s had a better season and has scored some spectacular goals, isn’t the right type of player longer term for a high energy pressing game. Idah may be, but haven’t seen much of it as yet.
Agree with you on Vipotnik. Sadly sounds as if we are going to have to wait some time before we see Idah pulling on his boots again.

Yes, that’s a huge shame. Plus long term hamstring issues don’t always result in the same player returning so fingers crossed. Unlike many on here, I think he has potential to be a very good player for us.

The one I’m most disappointed in is Inoussa. Early games I thought he showed something and I was quite positive about him. Last few games I’ve been less sure. He looks faster than he is I suspect.

Totally agree Monks appointment was ludicrous yet made by a man who when he did had more experience as a football CEO then Gorringe.
Sacking Luadrup and replacing him with Monk cost us dear, I believe Luadrup would have led us to Europa league success had some players not been scared of lising their PL satus
Jenkins was put out over Laudrup’s agent bloke (can’t remember his name). Simple as that.

I agree that he’d have had European success if he had stayed.

Pivotal moment in our history.

Tutumlu? It was all a bit weird. From memory, the agent was sacked in the summer of 2013, and left with a ‘people will find out about Jenkins’ threat after apparently wanting to swap Williams for Van Dijk!! Jenkins seemed pleased he’d convinced Laudrup to stay on (the best summer signing) and then Monk and his cabal started pouring in the poison. Monk was meant to join Brizzle and refused, then positioned himself. Great lower league player for us, disgusting man and at the absolute root of our demise.

Monk = one of our greatest ever. A Jack legend.

I don't think he was a disgusting man, he was a fantastic captain for us who set very high standards and pulled others along with him. He could have handled being dropped by Laudrup better and he turned out to be a useless manager, but he gave the club far more than he took. I'll always have time for him.

Having read his biography, he cared far more about himself than the club. As I say, great player, and I would add, captain ibelow the PL, but absolutely not my cup of tea and not of the stature I would score highly in my ‘club legends’ list. ‘Disgusting’ was a bit strong, but his behaviour with Sousa annd Laudrup, and destruction of much that was good about us, did end up disgusting me, admittedly in contextual hindsight.

Yep. His autobiography does him few favours. The kind of guy who can see an insult in anything.

But you're not looking for negatives at all are you?

You're doing your level best to downplay the improvement in results and performances over the last six weeks or so. Why not just say that we're doing well and you hope it continues?
Absolute nonsense.

I’ve said we’re doing well (or at least much much better) and that I’ve enjoyed our play since Matos has arrived on any number of occasions.

Every single time we get a new manager or new players some, and frequently that includes you, go completely over the top with how great we are suddenly doing, what that would mean over a season, how x player or y player are fantastic and that carries on for a while until suddenly they need to be replaced. Rinse and repeat.

It will take some time before we know whether or not players are ok, whether the manager is ok, whether the style of play is ok and how far we can go with the combination. The constant lurching from utter brilliance to utter crap on this board is tedious. A bit of realism wouldn’t go amiss.

Dropping him in the league cup final to play Ki at centre back was the start of it all.

I don't think anyone is really expecting the playoffs although it is by no means impossible.

Had Matos been here since the start of the season, I think it would obviously be a possibility since we're only 9 points off, a couple more wins, and avoiding that slump of defeats during the handover from Sheehan to Matos, and we'd be at least where Wrexham are now. At the minute we're just narrowly losing to teams in and around the playoffs, but we're not far off, in what is a poor Championship in terms of quality. We've had teams a level above the rest in the past few seasons, where as no one is really running away with things this season.

I think one of the signs about the quality of the squad is that, despite all the signings we've made Oli's coming back after a disastrous loan in League One, and we're expecting him to feature for us, alongside Fulton who's proven to yet another manager he's as good as many of the signings that have been brought in. On top of that, I'd argue we've missed Cullen in the last couple of games. On the positive side, Yalcouye and Staminic are going to be big players for us in the remainder of the campaign, and Eom has showed positive signs although there's still a work to do t make him less lightweight. And Ronald has had two assists of late after a couple of months of huffing and puffing to absolutely no avail.

You lambasted the fella when his name was linked to the job and when he was appointed.

When you mention this board being tedious upon times. It's the failure of people prepared to hold their hands up and admit they may have got a wrong about certain players and managers, now that is what is really tedious.

On the flipside, it's tedious to see the cycle of complaining about the manager when results are poor, eulogising the new guy when results improve, only to complain about him when results drop, etc.

There is nothing wrong with standing by the opinion that appointing Matos was a huge gamble. Anyone arguing otherwise when his managerial experience consisted of 12 games in Portugal's second division is being disingenuous.

I'm sure Lisa would agree that a lot of our more successful managers of recent times have also been gambles:

- Martinez had no experience
- Rodgers had flopped at Reading
- Potter had only managed in Sweden
- Cooper had only managed at U16 and U17 level
