The January 2026 Transfer Window Thread

Sadly it was just another case of an interim having an initial impact only to not be up to the job full time. Look at Tonda Eckert at Southampton, brilliant taking over from Still initially but they’ve only won 2 league games since he was given the job and are winless in five championship games...

I think that would make more sense, capable of starting in the Championship for me so definitely the right move for him. Hope we can get a CB through the door.

Re Casey, I would ask West Ham: what did you expect? By the time we signed Casey on loan we had already signed Burgess and had Cabango as a starter. If this is about game time Casey was never going to be a regular for us in the Championship and West Ham presumably knew that. Don’t get me...

Wales’ involvement in the second goal against West Brom was great to see. Doesn’t look physically out of his depth either. Some back up for striker would be helpful but I’d be happy for him to take that role if we don’t do anything in the market.

I agree re revenue and from the perspective of the manager and it’s always a shame to get knocked out of any competition. This season though, I’m not particularly sorry to see us have less games to play. For me, this is the most under threat our position in the Championship has been since...

I disagree, I don’t think it’s a given that we’ll be well clear by the end of the season, I’d rather not clog up the schedule with extra matches but I know that’s just my view. Normally I’d be all for a good cup run but I think it’s a complication we could do without this season while we get...

Really disappointing and a lesson in taking your chances for us. Easily the better side for all of that really, should have been done by 90. Having said that, we are still in a precarious position and don’t really need cup football this season. West Brom having more games to play also helps us...

Won’t be West Brom’s full strength side and it is in the cup but this has been our best performance of the season for me. Created multiple good chances, the patterns are there, Matos is clearly getting his message through in training.

Not a bad half from us, full of energy as usual just need to be a bit better at looking after the ball when we win it and in the final third (as usual). Ronald with 2 great crosses, we should have scored from one of them. Decent though overall.

I should rephrase that then, as them being more proactive in the market and attempting to build a squad with depth rather than spending more. I believe we spent a similar amount in the 2023 summer. We still don’t know if these owners are any better than the previous ones in terms of executing...

The January 2026 Transfer Window Thread

Bottom line is, bringing a 36 year old in for 6 months means that we don’t have adequate cover in the RB position and we didn’t in the summer either. If we don’t have enough experienced heads in the squad then perhaps we should have factored that in with all the players we brought in during the...

I don’t understand this one, I thought whatever right back we brought in would be a starter so Galbraith could move back into midfield, it’s clear that Key is only seen as a rotation option now going by the past 9 games. It could be that Key’s injury is that bad that we need two right backs, one...

    Wolves and West Ham

That’s fair enough, I think West Ham have a big enough fanbase/revenue to be a force in the championship especially if they spend the money well that they’d get from selling plus parachutes. Wolves are a bit different but the owners have invested a lot in youth there and I can see them having a...

Personally think both will be well resourced for the championship, I’d be surprised to see either of them in the play offs.

    Wolves and West Ham

Both of those teams in the Championship next season could make for a very tough year for hopeful promotion sides, I can’t see a world where it’s not those two in the top spots. Do we think West Ham are done? They were very poor last night.

The January 2026 Transfer Window Thread

We shouldn’t be after players like Joel Ward in my opinion, it’s like the Bolasie move all over again. It’s not that he isn’t a good player, I bet he could do a job for us but what wages would he command? If it’s just for cover then surely we can loan a youngster in or use Parker?

What are we really expecting from Matos....

I would agree about Vipotnik, as much as I like him and think he’s been very good this season, I don’t think he’s what Matos would want for this style of play. We’ll more than likely be looking to sell him in the summer to bring in a more pressing forward as you say. I hope it works out here for...

What are we really expecting from Matos....

I think we’ve done as well as can be expected considering where we were. The football is improving in my eyes, passing is better, distances between players is shorter and no more gaps in midfield. We’re never going to be playing tiki taka because Matos follows Klopp who was never like that...

What are we really expecting from Matos....

The difference with Sunderland is that they finished 6th the season before they finished 16th, proving that they had a few players that could mix it up the top end of the table. Their recruitment has been more hit than miss from what I’ve seen and I think in general that 16th season was seen as...
