Confirmed by Maritimo on Instagram. Matos is joining us, thankfully we look to have the manager search sorted. Their post doesn’t mention whether or not he will take their game on the weekend but I’d assume he’ll be in our dugout for the Derby game on Wednesday.

They’ll probably have more detailed information on Matos than we do. Still though, small sample size and a big big risk.

There will be a lot of candidates, it may feel like slim pickings but Hellberg probably would have been a decent shout going by the media reaction to his Boro move, and I think the club genuinely thought Matos was a good option. I don’t think this is bottom of the barrel for us.

In fairness, I saw a Maritimo fan on Twitter say that they don’t have a problem creating chances but the strikers they have available aren’t finishing. Hopefully Vipotnik and Idah can do better if we start creating chances more.

I was trying to be more positive about it yesterday but it’s pretty inescapable how much of a risk we’re taking here and as people have said, reads as the club trying to be clever. All we can do is hope that they’ve pulled a blinder and it pays off.

The only other thing I’ve seen about Matos apart from betting odds is from the BBC yesterday who said he was in the running. I usually take them at their word.
