Brings back memories for me when I met him and Russell Coughlin after our Stirling Albion and Ayr Utd games during our Scottish summer tour of 1991

Very quiet and unassuming thought nothing of it at the time. Even in the lively clubhouse post match with Chopper Harris. Legg. Thornber and Smith all quite lary Davies decided to sit on the players coach on his own which seemed strange at the time.

Sadly, a lot goes unseen in the public eye

Didn’t he produce a man of the match performance in the 83 FA cup final for Man U v Brighton?
One of the most talented footballers I’ve had the privilege of watching at Swansea.

A very talented player (the video is chronologically wrong as it suggests he played for us before Manure).

He used to call into Thomas' Paper Shop in Treboeth when I was a lad and he'd always talk about football with my mate and me. I was impressed by his car too - a Vauxhall Cavalier SRI - I think he lived in Llangyfelach.

Alan Davies was Llangyfelach. Russel Coughlin used to live in my house in Treboeth, trying to convince the wife to have a blue plaque put on the front of the house. I don't fancy my chances.

Davies did fall out with Frankie Burrows i remember when John Williams was on trial that summer. We started going very direct..

Russ was born and raised on Mayhill so I'm assuming he lived in Treboeth when he returned to play for the club?

He was a lovely guy, very understated and quiet, didn't like fuss. He came to Sunderland away with us and while Cornforth was lapping up the attention, Russ stood in the corner with a pint and wanted none of it. Tragic end, going on 9 years ago now

Russell Coughlin is one of my all time favourite Swans players. A really classy footballer in an era when classy footballers were far from the norm. Especially here. I loved him.

Coughlin was perfect for that era... robust and physical yet great technique and vision.

A sort of Ray McHale upgrade ..

Same here. Top class. When I wrote a bunch of player profiles for this site what must be DECADES ago now, his was one I looked forward to writing as I absolutely loved him.

Scrap it out in midfield, win the ball and then spray a lovely inch perfect pass out to someone, wipe down the mustache then get back in position for the next battle.
