Earlier today the Swans Trust unveiled their latest piece of street art to permanently commemorate legends of Swansea Town/City and Wales.
The scheme is part of a larger project by the Swans Trust to promote the history and heritage of the football club and follows on from a number of other recent equipment box unveilings.
This time it was the turn of Club legends Mel Nurse and Harry Griffiths.
We are once again indebted to local award winning author and Trust Ambassador David Brayley for his help and support and this is what he posted on his Facebook page a little earlier:
“An indescribable honour for me today, to take part in the unveiling of the latest heritage tributes by Swansea City Supporters Trust of legendary Swansea City Football Club players of the past.
Today was the turn of Mr Swansea, the incredible Mel Nurse, and his teammate and one of the most loyal of all Swans legends, the late Harry Griffiths.
To be able to say a few words in tribute to these wonderful men was a dream come true, but to then take part in the unveiling with first, Mel and his daughter Nicola and then at the second ceremony with my boyhood hero and now friend, Alan Curtis, was a huge moment.
All at the Trust involved in this wonderful heritage initiative should be rightly proud of these tributes, they are really important, and to have Mel with us all today to unveil the tribute himself was extra special. I’ve been honoured to have known Mel since I was 15, and he still hasn’t lost his wonderful sense of humour…’he’s a good looking boy’, he said with a smile when it was unveiled!
It was also lovely that Mel’s biographer and great pal of mine, Pete Jones, also made it down to pay tribute to his friend, Mel too.
It is so important that the contribution these young men made to our city’s football club is never forgotten and that their involvement is given a permanent reminder within the communities they lived in. A special day
