A Policeman Is Done

Rancid from top to bottom...apparently.

With the caveat that plenty of individual police officers are of course fine people doing their best, I'd say that piece proves that it's rancid from top to bottom. Not sure what other people are reading.

That article proves my point, if it was a reference to me.

I didn’t say every police officer is bad, in fact, I specifically said that’s not the case, it’s the organisation and culture.

Which he seems to also say.

These cases of police officers sending selfies, memes etc, indicate something is very wrong. They don’t seem to think what they are doing is untoward. They are sending them to colleagues. If I had done that in any job I’ve ever had I’d have been sacked. The two that took selfies haven’t been and are still there, the bloke this week has been put on ‘desk duties’. It’s shameful.

Nobody has a pension after 20 years in the police, it has always been a minimum of 30 years and after Home Secretary May changed the pension rules you are now expected to work until you reach 60 years of age.

A bit of a cheap shot Lisa I expected better from you.

She didn’t mean it she was just agreeing with ECB.
If he’d said the opposite she’d have agreed with that too.
It’s the pinko sisterhood. 😉

Of course you can. Won’t be a full pension unless specific reasons. But it’s 20/60ths. That’s a lot compared to many jobs. Depends on age though.

But I was being slightly sarcastic. The bloke that posted it is a best selling author who left the police years ago. I know it’s supposed to be someone else who wrote it but they’re not credited and he’s advertising his books and stuff on the back of it so it’s difficult to tell whether it’s genuine or him.

As I said, there are many fine individual police officers but there is a culture that is seriously ‘wrong’ (again, as I’ve said, I have no idea whether other forces are similar).

Lisa has an intense dislike of the Police, she reminds me of a retired teacher neighbour of ours, got booked for speeding 20 years ago and has hated the Police ever since.

No I don’t, and I also think that’s a very unfair statement to make.

I believe that the Metropolitan Police have a toxicity relating to certain sections of the community - women being one. It’s not all of them, but it’s a frequently demonstrated macho culture that does not make people like me (women) feel we can fully trust them to take us seriously.

Perhaps if some of them stopped sending selfies and memes around when they are with the bodies of murdered women it may help? Or if those that did had any sort of punishment as a result (desk job on full pay not being an example of such).

I have literally never had so much as a speeding ticket btw. I’ve had a couple of fixed penalty notices for stopping for a minute to drop someone off in a red route and that’s it. Please don’t assume that those of us who do not have the most faith in the police are of that mind due to us having had trouble with them. My only interactions have been the few times when I’ve been attacked or robbed when they’ve turned up, sent me a case number for insurance, and written me a letter a few weeks later saying they can’t do anything along with a link to ‘victim support’. As I have now said a few times, it’s not all officers and I have no idea whether other forces are the same.

This all very sad considering I left The Met in 2011, seems as if attitudes haven't changed at all. The canteen Culture is still strong and thriving, Lisa is correct and I'll back her up, I worked alongside some very decent and honest coppers, who were in the majority, however of course there are some wrong uns and in this case a very bad wrong un.
My (ex) wife was raped by a sgt, however he wasn't prosecuted (various complicated reasons), he was sacked at a discipline board, where he was described as acting as a local "sheriff" in the area that he worked amongst other things.

To a point the incident ultimately played a massive part in the demise of my marriage with the mental strain it put on her and myself for that matter.
