To be a wide player. He's nowhere near good enough

Agreed, but still couldn't beat a man, tackle or pass a ball. All pretty important characteristics for a footballer at this level. To be a wide player.
1. He has been in and around the first team squad for some time.Agreed, but still couldn't beat a man, tackle or pass a ball. All pretty important characteristics for a footballer at this level.
22 years old and going to orient tells you all you need to know.
No idea why we're getting our knickers in a twist over him
It's like Sam Parker being called up for his performances as a winger with the U21s and then being criticised in a few months because nobody can understand why he looks so uncomfortable playing as a holding midfielder in the first team1. He has been in and around the first team squad for some time.
2. He has seen regular game time, some starts and quite frequent substitute appearances.
3. He had played zero minutes in his natural position, a position which brought the spotlight on to him in the first place.
4. We are a bit thin on the ground in terms of squad.
Those saying “but we’ve got Ginnelly” are talking nonsense, as Abdulai is not a wide player, and we really shouldn’t be comfortable with having Ginnelly as an injury free option.
Hence imagine my surprise that we’re flogging Abdulai.
If he's so good, why's he going to Leyton frigging orient? It's like Sam Parker being called up for his performances as a winger with the U21s and then being criticised in a few months because nobody can understand why he looks so uncomfortable playing as a holding midfielder in the first team
There's a huge difference in playing out wide compared to playing through the middle. When he did broke through to the first team originally, I thought he had one or two good games and showed a lot of potential. I could understand where the 'puff' piece in the press came from, saying he was the next big thing. Unfortunately, it's been all downhill from there. I know people go on about him being played out of position and there may be something in that, but as Eteb says above, for some time now he hasn't even shown he can do the basics, which aren't position dependent, i.e. tackle, pass, shoot, beat an opponent.
Whether that's lack of ability or just the general malaise affecting the squad due to Williams I don't know, but maybe it's better he moves on and frees up some salary for a new player.
I'm not writing him off, but maybe it's better for him if he moves on. He needs regular starts, and we are desperate for the money. There's a huge difference in playing out wide compared to playing through the middle.
Paul Scholes playing for England is a prime example of that.
Would you write him off as player based on what he did out wide for England or what he did in his natural position at United?
I didn't say he's "so good".If he's so good, why's he going to Leyton frigging orient?
Just typical of our club. Clueless City FCWTF are we doing?
He’s an academy product, has had plenty of game time in the wrong position, and now we’re flogging him.
He's 22. If he was 18 I'd agreeI didn't say he's "so good".
He's a young player who was promoted to the first team based on his performances for the U21s and has then been played in a variety of positions, none of which are the position he played in the U21s.
Hopefully he'll get to play as a midfielder at Orient and shows more than he was able to as a winger here
22 is still pretty young, Josh Thomas is the same age as him for example. Oli Cooper will be 26 this year, he's still spoken about as if he's a plucky youngsterHe's 22. If he was 18 I'd agree
