I was referring to the summer the damage was done under Watson. Overall his success rate was a lot lower than what we are getting now, especially when you include the likes of O’Brien etc we signed in the January we were reeling big time under Williams.

If social media was anything to go by the fans want to see Yalcouye start infront of Franco aswell this season.
It’s not particularly fair to list signings made under him that were poor and ignore the ones that have been a success (in terms of being in the team to this day).

In terms of overall, Watson was meh. Not good but not quite as bad as some make out.

We wouldn’t be with a different manager, hence me saying please bookmark and if it comes back to bite me then so be it.

This summer was about getting footballers who are assets for the club, we finally have that. What did Yates/Myko/Tjoe plus the others I mentioned ever bring for us? If you want a trading model which I assume we do I’m sure the owners have even mentioned it in one of their statements to fans then we need players like Galbraith, Stamenic, Widdell and Inoussa
I agree to a large extent but I think we need to be careful in always viewing success as being about future profit.

This is a very real season we are playing and we must not lose sight of that.

Individually we have signed some talented players and ones that will generate future profits. I am not yet convinced that we have signed the correct combination of players to make a good team.

Most of us think Matos is doing well, better than Sheehan. Most of us thought Sheehan was better than Williams.

And yet, with a squad that most are saying had a number of inferior players to those available now, Williams (who most thought crap) was doing better last season at the half way mark than we are doing at the moment.

So something isn’t right.

Not trying to act Columbo, we are no better off in league position or points from the drop zone.
I am just stating a fact.
You are right that we are no better off points wise.
We are however, clearly improving in our play, shots, xg, even seeing some passing triangles that Roberto would be smiling at 🤣.
The other issue is, other teams below us are also starting to pick up points.
We lost, only just to Coventry and actually put in a decent showing.
Matos has not had long at all in post and I feel has turned us around very quickly.
Let’s see what happens over the next few games to see if this optimism is rewarded and confirmed by wins.

I’m feeling more confident than I was before he was appointed.

In my view, what fans deem a success and what the club deem a success are very different things. Club has to take a long term view of the players they bring in and they are clearly extremely happy with what they have seen from them.

Widdell already looks a success. Compare him now to his first appearances. The boy has grown in confidence.

Not aimed at you but all the negativity surrounding new signings - let's not kid ourselves, is definitely a personal rather than a recruitment issue. Its becoming clearer every day.
That certainly appears to be the case re expectations.

In reality, the truth as to what success looks like is somewhere between the two.

Relegation is a sure way of dampening player values. We’ve seen it before. Plus the best way by far of generating profit in British football is getting to the premier league. All else pales in comparison.

And all the individual player trading profits in the world won’t prevent apathy in fans if year after year sees mediocre on field success.

As for who recruits who, I don’t give a toss. That’s between the club and its staff.

In my view, the fairly constant bigging up of individuals that’s we’ve seen this season which is quite clearly being fed by people close to those individuals is pretty tedious.

Agree with all that 👍

Recruitment isn’t judged on league position, management is. Half the team isn’t even the team he has recruited mun! So he cant be held responsible for their performances.

I also disagree that our summer signings were that expensive. Average it out per player. A lot of clubs have spent our summer spend on one single player.

I also disagree that Galbraith is the only success. Burgess has been a mainstay starter, Casey and Ishe Smith have been excellent for what they have been brought in to do, Melker and Stamenic look very good already an Inoussa and Idah have showed good promise but are clearly still finding their feet.

The only non success I would say is Benson. Which i reckon is good going in comparison to what is expected from a usual recruitment department return.

We signed a squad because the squad was so thin. It’s disingenuous to pretend they were all brought in to be first teamers.

The last paragraph is definitely true, no doubt about it and you can tell that by sentiment outside of the same handful of accounts online being very happy with the players we have.

The obsession with this bloke is fascinating but ridiculous at the same time.

It's both recruitment and management, more than half the team aren't the new players because Sheehan and Matos haven't deemed them good enough. Can you say that any besides maybe Widell can be genuinely hard done by by not being picked more? Not really.

Burgess has been a mainstay in a team in a relegation battle and hes been poor overall in my opinion. A huge disappointment. Smith i like, but hes a squad player. Casey too and hes had a few mistakes in him. Neither can break into this relegation threatened side. Stamenic has improved, but still needs to do a lot more, let's face it, hes had 3 good games all season. Widell is showing signs and needs to play more, but he certainly can't be considered a success yet. Benson has been poor but I can see why the punt was taken on deadline day considering his history.

Innoussa is poor signing. Expensive and his attitude seems poor. Needs to concentrate on end product and less diving. Idah I said when he signed wasn't up to it. 3 goals in half season shows that.

Agreed, we need a squad, but the likes of Ronald, Cullen, Fulton, Eom should be the squad players now. But they still play too much because the new signings (which are expensive for us) haven't performed on the whole yet.

I admire your optimism but until there's a consistent upturn in form, im amazed how blasé some posters on this topic. We're half way through the season and 4 points off the relegation zone and the new signings besides 1 notable exception have barely positively contributed at all. Being honest, that's the fact.

Well the club enjoy putting his name out there- he gets mentioned with remarkable frequency in press releases and by other staff and hes been promoted I think twice now? Its natural that such a figure is discussed.

I couldn't agree more on this. It started before a ball was kicked, and while you could perhaps forgive that as close season optimism, I don't understand how some are still doing it given the way this season has transpired.

While we can all have slightly varying opinions on certain individuals, as a team we currently sit 20th in the table only 4 points off the drop zone. That tells you that hardly anyone in our squad has shone, or if they have it has been fitful at best. Anyone trying to upsell that state of affairs to the fans is at best insulting, and at worst borderline gaslighting.

It is very surprising how content people seem to be. A lot more needs to come from these new players for summer business to be considered a success. If we sold them all now, we'd be well down on our outlay.
