A lot of it Mon was. Grimes in particular, who we both have said for ages was a huge problem for us. The change in midfield has been astonishing and it’s due to O’Brien.
Yes, there is that eleph…gnome… in the room. But Williams was a massive problem too imo.

Poor shout, as per.
Watching from the sidelines is clearly insufficient education for you. Proper context, is everything.

Entirely different specimens playing entirely different roles with entirely different managers.

Those that compare and contrast the two without the right context - have clearly never played the game to a (half) decent level.

Tier 2/3 footy analysis, at best. As per…..

Yeah, apart from Sheehan was his assistant. I mean it’s possible that Williams took absolutely zero notice of him, but I think that would be very odd. I really think it’s Grimes going and his replacement coming in that has made the biggest difference. Not least as I’m not sure the mood in the camp was particularly happy previously and it certainly seems very positive now.

Grimes going has certainly helped, but the main difference very obviously is the departure of Williams.

Much like Russy before him, he was far more concerned with forcing the players he had into his system rather than in playing to their strengths. Good players were made to look average, average players were made to look poor.

LoB has added direction and drive to our midfield for sure, but his presence alone does not, cannot explain the improvement in defence, or the freedom and joy with which players like Eom are now going about their business. Just for two examples.

Bit of both for me.

You can't challenge for promotion with a striker like Vip or Cullen. And our CBs struggle against top forwards.

But you can keep a good team shape, work hard off the ball and be professional - these are all things that were not happening under Williams.
Our recent form would suggest we could possibly challenge for promotion, via the play offs.

Williams will do well to get another job at this level.

Is Sheehan doing an unbelievable job or was Williams even worse than we all thought?
Not ‘we all’. Go back to the first couple of match threads of the season when I said we were in trouble under Williams and the pelters I got for it. 😂

The Wycombe game in the league cup got me thinking he wasn't up for it.

I then wanted him to do well as he came across as decent bloke. I guess my heart ruled my head for a while.

Apologies if I was one giving you pelters for calling it early 🙏🏼

I desperately wanted Williams to succeed but it looked obvious to me that he was another copy and paste manager and I said so, and no no don’t think it was you.

The thing that Sheehan obviously does differently is set his team up taking in to account the opposition and allowing players to do their jobs at basic level, earning the right to play and that’s why it sometimes gets a bit ugly/scruffy. Martin/Williams wee too arrogant to do that and thought that setting the team up one way and one way only would be enough, completely disrespecting the opposition and draining the players of natural instinct.

Those who are suggesting that Grimes leaving over Sheehan taking over being the single biggest driver in our upturn in fortunes are embarrassing themselves.

What irked me with Williams was his lack of a plan B.

It was why we're so inconsistent under him. The plan worked against some teams. It didn't against a lot.

I criticised him for the line up against Derby where as I moaned Williams didn't change it up.

You're right about Martin being arrogant, I think Williams was just clueless.

Have to admit I'm glad Grimes has moved on. The lad divided opinion amongst the fans and it caused a rift between the fanbase.
