Yup, fuck that.

If this is where Montague is going, I don't like it.

Part of the reason Sheehan has done well is that he's stopped this nonsense. No one in their right mind wants calamity Cabango on the ball all the time. Let him do his CB work, get him up for set pieces as well if you want, he is good at that, but once you start asking him to step out and play (like Martin and Williams) then you're in a world of trouble.

Huge red flag this.
If you read a little later in the thread this was debunked as an outdated metric for his side.

It was from their first season in the top Swedish league when they successfully avoided relegation finishing 10th out of 16. Last season they finished a historic best of 2nd place and were far more aggressive in their passing and positional play

What will be the target of our new owners next season? I can’t see play offs being a realistic aim myself. Some very strong (plenty of money) clubs next season.

The problem I have - and clearly you aren't in this camp - is that there are still some in our fanbase who indulge in the cakeism of expecting the club to uphold the purity of 'Swanselona' against a backdrop of losing £20m a year. It ain't gonna happen.

The sooner some accept that Sheehan-type coaches (pragmatists) is where we are at right now and what we need, the better.

Oh absolutely. It seems fairly obvious that the majority of people casting heavy doubt on Sheehan are still living in 2007 and are mostly the same people who strongly backed both Martin and Williams because they played what is considered the "right" type of football. The ones who don't understand that the game has moved on.

I would tend to agree that we're likely to top out at about mid table with what we have. I think Vip can be a 15-20 goal striker in the right environment, but we do lack a genuine creative #10 and pace througout the side.

If you read the article on Hellberg from his first season in charge of Varnamo (who were in the top flight for the first time in their history) you will see the following:

"When teams are described as direct, the perception is normally that the side is playing Route 1 or playing off of a traditional target man, scrounging for second balls.

It’s disorderly, chaotic and aesthetically unpleasing.

Värnamo’s style of play is very vertical, but far from the traditional meaning of direct.

Rather than a hit-and-hope approach, Värnamo is a side that uses numeric overloads to ruthlessly break lines and run at the opponent.

They’re not afraid to play over the opposition with thoughtful passes into streaking wingers, but their most modus operandi is to play into high targets between the lines while keeping the ball on the ground."

Read the article and you will see that Hellberg is not like Martin at all. The picture painted is very much one of an up-and-coming manager at the leading edge. Sheehan on the other hand seems far more like a Rowett or Neil, decent, solid championship manager, but nothing special.

I stopped reading about his tactics with his current club when I saw they’ve employed a mathematician for analysis 🥴 I’m not big on maths anyway, let alone in football.

The above is not a thumbs down for him coming here because apart from that article
I know nothing about him. But it seems some of ours have read that write up and have deemed him as the newest messiah.

Have you got a map for that one?

I have asked for the previous 2 season maps but nothing yet.

I see the views on the map from 3 seasons back with a very unfancied team who was highly expected to get relegated.
I think I would reserve my personal judgement before I see the previous 2 seasons maps.

I accept that is a danger. But if you just look at his achievements without any context it's impressive. Managed or assisted since he was 23. Several promotions. Took a tiny club, Varnamo (5,000 capacity stadium) to 10th place in their first ever season in the top flight, then 5th second season. Then took Hammarby to 2nd spot, their best finish in over two decades. This compares to Sheehan's 20 games as the main man.

As others have posted, we're in the rare position of making what looks to be a good appointment whichever way we go. That can only be welcomed.

Foreign name ☑️
Heat map showing millions of passes ☑️
An article written about him ☑️

Swans fans go into orgasmic joy.

He may turn out to be a massive success, or he may turn out to be another Russy / Luke process coach.

I can’t see how anyone can get excited by him. Not that I’m overly excited by Sheezy either mind. Perhaps I’m just too old for it all.

We need the view of Andy Cole on this.

Anyway, Uppafuckingswans today.

And like Potter might bugger off to a bigger club with the first half decent season in English soccer

Let's not forget......Alan Sheehan is technically foreign 😳

If I were to make a choice here and now then it's Alan Sheehan's job going forward......he has won me over.

Any long term appointment has risks but Hellberg brings a financial risk, finances I would rather seen put towards the first team. I also get the feeling that it's a split with his potential appointment and feel the fans more united in the Sheehan appointment and a fan base pulling in the right direction is massive in my opinion.
