I'll take Michael Duff over the chinwig fraud every day.
Expecting the hedge fund to back him up with some proper money the next 7 days and we'll see where it gets us.

Duff has my support.

Me too. Gut instinct says he‘s a down to earth bloke unlike the previous „it‘s all about me and the process“

Absolutely Longy, he's picking up a shit stick and is running with it, Josh Ginnelly, Mykola Kukharevych and Nathan Tjoe-A-On look more than decent acquisitions, Josh Key has nailed down his position already, all young and looking to make thier way, Rushworth in for the fish too, quality.
The results will come...

He has to have the support, for now. However, if he fails to show adaptability and doesn't play to the strengths of the team then he will get called out in the same way RM was.

Adjusting playing styles and tactics takes time. Words stated in front of the press shouldn't require much work and Duff has said one or two things which left me scratching my head. Let's see where we are at the end of January.

And I would say, too many dense, "reduce everything to a binary argument" weirdos on here, with you as the one eyed king in the kingdom of the blind. It's dripping off you.

He needs to stop picking a Grimes/Fulton midfield and then grumbling about how we've failed to maintain tempo. Fulton can't really do it. Grimes certainly can't.

Maybe his hands are tied with regards personnel and I do wander how involved he was in prolonging "Matty's" reign of tedium, but the midfield is key. We have to change things up there.

He’s said publicly he has no involvement with who he has; he just coaches whoever rocks up. Whether that’s true or not I have no idea, but it’s what he said in a recent presser,

Dry your eyes love he's gone, let him go for the sake of your happiness, get some counseling asap.

I couldn't agree more, get the midfield sorted. And begin that process by playing a back four (a) to allow an extra body in midfield and (b) to force our TWO central defenders to play the ball forward quicker and stop them reverting to sideways/backwards Martinball as the THREE of them do amongst themselves at the moment.

In his defence he hasn't spent the best part of a decade watching Grimes slow down basically everything we try to do like most of the rest of us have. Hopefully, unlike his predecessors, he'll grasp fairly quickly where much of the problem lies. If he doesn't then add him to the list of failures.

With the question of playing both Grimes and Fulton does the new manager need to carry on with the system he wants to play trying different player or take look back at when these were most effective under past managers
If he looked back, Duff would see that them playing in front of a back four resulted in a defensive strengthing of the team while with the right midfield and forwards around them we could get forward effectively.
You could say under Cooper we didn't score enough but you must remember at times we had Hourihane and Cory Smith the latter being a more workman but little composure once he got anywhere within sight of goal, Hourihane disappeared at time.
Russell at times when seemingly force into a back four had good runs of games.
But as stated with Coopers team it depended on the players picked around them, think we have the players now around them after new younger more mobile players being introduced, still waiting on the left side to be sorted but as we saw with Martin even one of the most derided players Lati fitted into a winning back four.
Only a of word of caution is age, is Fulton's able to do the legwork he did in the past, he needs help and has had to be replaced in games. Grimes also while not the fastest around the park looks off the pace again needs help.
The natural choice was Downes, sold, now Allen but too injury prone. Ollie in a more withdrawn role to help out? Key who may be looking for a position if the left footed play is sorted
Eventually Grimes and Fulton will need replacing especially if continued to be used in a team with a 3 man defence set up.

I am in absolute agreement that Grimes/Fulton as the axis of our midfield does not work.

Against Preston Fulton was worse than a passenger he was straight up AWOL it was like we were playing with 10 men and the one golden opportunity that dropped into his lap to put us two up and while not kill the game off would have had a hugely demoralizing effect on Preston he screwed it up.

If we are to persist with this formation then Grimes and Patino as the base and a creative attacking midfielder to play behind Yates and Cullen/Davis (if he signs) has to be the way forward. Ginnelly can apparently fill that role as can Walsh (if he can stay fit longer than ten minutes) but if not it has to be the number one priority signing for us as since Ntcham left we have struggled to connect midfield to attack with any real consistency.

You ask is Fulton able to still do the legwork because of age, for goodness sake he's 29 not 49. He's always been a donkey in midfield ,but was allowed to get away with it under Martin because he did so many unnecessary 5 and 10 yard passes sideways and backwards to Grimes and the defence. Someone on a topic on Saturday said he wasn't a defensive midfielder, well he certainly isn't a creative attacking midfielder, his assist and goalscoring record with us is woeful. If you look at the impressive run we put together at the back end of the season the two obvious improvements were that we tweaked the system to a back four and the other was that Fultons name rarely made the starting line up.
