A three year contract terminated with less than six months run

Those mistakes don't come cheaply.

Let's hope that as 'professional businessman' there will be some sort of get out clause.

Hard medicine on a repeat prescription.

I didn't see that coming.

Either a very brave or very stupid shout. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes.

My two issues with it has nothing to do with Duff. That's 3 managers in a row that the club have been looking to terminate before the end of their contract...all different styles (although not sure what Duff's style actually was, but it wasn't Cooper or Martin). It simply smacks of clueless desperation and no real direction or strategy. So who the hell (any good) would really want to come here?

We're a mess.

Hardly unique though, are we? 15 Championship managers lost their jobs last season. Some clubs had 3 in 12 months. You get a multi-year contract paid out even if you do a poor job, plenty of managers out there will be keen to try their hand in the division.

They have to get this appointment right or the most expensive mistake will be starting next season in League 1.

Coleman scathing on Duff.

No not our owner

Hopefully there’s a clause saying, we can get rid of a manager in under 6 months unless certain criteria is met. If that happens, the pay off is £x instead of £y.
Just hoping…..

Hopefully there was a performance related clause in the contract as there is for employees in other private businesses.

Otherwise, very expensive mistake which must surely cancel out the compo from Southampton for Russ.

As I understand it these payoffs for managers apply until they find another job when they stop or are drastically reduced.

If that’s the case here let’s hope he finds employment elsewhere soon.

Yes, expensive mistake in hindsight. Yet the more expensive mistake would be to do nothing. And not learn from past mistakes of hanging on to a failing manager., like Martin.

Let’s all hope the decisive action to change tac so early turns out to be the wisest economic decision - where we stand the very best chance of actually achieving our objectives. Where the cost of not achieving our objectives is far greater than the cost of ditching Duff.

We were sinking with Duff, yet as Duff was a (affordable) sunk cost the best and right thing to do was to take that decisive action unhindered, get rid and find the right bloke to deliver.

Sticking would have been a ridiculously expensive mistake. Twisting was the logical, rational commercial decision in the best interests of our Club.

Well done. And let’s hope we now kick on and build upon the 4 from 6 points achieved…..

I think most people would agree that, derbies and one or two other notable results aside, Martin didn't pull up any trees here.

But comparing his level of failure to that of Duff is just absolutely bonkers. It's not even in the same postcode. Hell, not even in the same galaxy.

Duff had to be removed as a matter of urgency, not just because of results but because of performances and a general disharmony throughout the dressing room. It was never at that level with Martin, nowhere near. You're trying to rewrite history.

We’d have been better off going into these fixtures with Duff until we’d secured an agreement with his successor. The trigger happy SOB who shipped him needs to realise he’s made us look ridiculous. Who the effin eff looking at this shotshow would take US on?
Very very poor performances from those who we were led to believe were consummate professionals.

Well performances certainly seem to have changed gear. Into neutral. Or possibly even reverse as witnessed tonight. Duff did an unbelievable job to motivate this lot into some good performances, considering the limitations he had to deal with.

I don’t know what Duff ever did to you personally but I think , if you consult a good enough psychiatrist, you find him telling you “it’s all in your head”.
