Do you clap when this is announced? If so, why?

Personally no, but used to remember the laughter at the Vetch when the ground was half full and the announcement came over the tannoy... "today's attendance is 2,301

I used to find it sad when we were in the Premiership and proudly announcing attendances way under capacity.
In answer to your question, no I don't

Why announce it at all, who actually cares ?

I'm not sure that HMRC send people to the games to record the actual attendance mind ;)

To the OP question - I don't think anyone pays attention these days largely as the number is always higher than the number of people in the ground - either that or the stadium capacity has grown somewhat!

That was mainly to away fans not selling out..

Do people clap the announcement then? I can't say I've noticed it at all.

Yes, yes they do. Every game. The psychology behind it is fascinating.

I was alluding more to the cash days of the vetch. Though you never know with HMRC these days

Ah but at the Vetch it was tax offset against a dodgy fax machine.

Not many clapping when they announced it on Saturday, so I'm told.

And not being able to sell single seats. I failed to get 2 tickets together for me and my son several times, they offered me two singles but he was too young to be on his own.

I can’t imagine us being the only ones in that position

I wonder how many people clap when they see they've spent £76.53 in Tescos, or manage to put exactly £15 worth of petrol in their car.
