Can even deposit cheques online these days (or you can in the US anyway); aside from depositing cash, I don't think there's anything I can't do online.

Yep take a picture on your phone & deposit

You can with a Halifax account.

Not really an option for the older folks though, is it?

Why not?

My old mum is 86 and cannot master a mobile phone, never mind the internet. She gave me GBH of the earhole last week when I phoned her for our weekly chat and she told me about her one hour visit to HSBC in Port Talbot to draw some money out. More than was permitted from the cashpoint, so she had to queue up for the one teller who was on duty. Sounds nightmare-ish.

Computers have now been around in mainstream for, say, 35 years? I wonder when society will drop the excuse of not being able to use computers?

I've had this debate with my old man on many an occasion. When I complain to him that he sees me as his 24/7 unlimited access IT helpdesk his usual retort is centred around how he taught me to do basic plumbing, wiring, building.

My father in law who is nearly 80 found £180 in old £10 notes in his coat pocket. How do you deposit that online? Paid it in to my wifes account and asked for a receipt, was told by the cashier that they weren't giving receipts as it's handling paper because of the coronavirus.

You can pay money in at the post office to any bank account by debit card. Many spars and other kinds of newsagents now have integrated post offices.

The amount of younger people, I'm talking under 30 years old with little or no IT skills might surprise a few people. It's not just the oldies who have a problem.
