• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

Several supermarkets are on a drive to remove BBD from certain product lines, the primary goal is to reduce food waste. Don’t confuse BBD with UBD, the latter is much more important and the one you should pay attention to.

No confusion here Coops, it’s my line of work in a roundabout way. Aye loads of stuff now comes without any BBD on them, makes me nauseous just thinking about it.

3 years past it's bbd is my record for jam found in my mother in law's fridge. Very nice it was too.

I've taken to buying out of date beers. There's some brilliant deals out there.

If it's alcohol and it's sealed then it'll probably last years beyond its BBD.

Got given a can of 11.6% Imperial Stout the other day that was six months past the date and it was fine.

Best before is just that. It's a measure of quality being maintained. Past the BBD may reduce eating or drinking quality. The product will be safe.

Use by means a foodstuff is microbiologically safe until that date. Beyond that food safety cannot be guaranteed. Remember the bugs that cause spoilage are not always (and indeed are rarely) the ones that make you ill. For meat or cooked chilled products going beyond the use before is a risk. And don't think cutting mouldy bits off cheese means it's safe either. The mycelium can spread though food leading to mycotoxins. Unless of course the cheese is meant to be mouldy.

Had some nice Waitrose cookies today that a customer sent us last June, bbe 10/22. I'd have them again.

Use by dates are the only ones worth bothering about imo. Best before dates are absolute nonsense imo and I've always ignored them. It's just someone's opinion that something will taste perfect on 15th Feb but not on the 16th? B*llocks. BBDs are probably a ploy by food manufacturers to encourage people to throw away food a long time before it's necessary in the hope that they buy another one and throw that away a couple of weeks later.

- Floss and brush your teeth
- Clean shirt and deodorant
- A quick rinse of the old fella under the tap

They’re my tips for the best things to do before dates

I can see you're an optimist.

Most Sundays my brothers and I were served ‘Mystery Meat’ from the back of the freezer. Even upon consumption, we still couldn’t tell what it was, other than, way past its best! Still ate it mind!
