Always let sleeping dogs lie.
Off you go ...
Off you go ...
Funny thing I was talking to my mate about something similar ish last week.
In August 1979 Led Zeppelin were playing two consecutive Saturdays in Knebworth.
All my mates in Baglan were hiring a van from Pinetree and going to go to both gigs.
I was a first year apprentice fitter in the steelworks so I went to see the apprentices manager and asked if I could have two consecutive unpaid Fridays and Mondays off.
The answer was absolutely not and he said heād be keeping an eye on me and if I wasnāt in work on those days Iād face instant dismissal.
Being a bit headstrong as we are at that age I told everyone I wouldnāt be seeing them much longer as I would be going to Knebwoth in a few weeks time.
Word got back to my section instructor in first year fitting and he called me into his office for an informal chat, his advice was to think carefully about it and said that I could see Led Zeppelin sometime in the future so I ended up taking his advice and missing Knebworth and finishing my four year apprenticeship and passing out as a fitter in the steelworks.
The moral of this story is I missed seeing Led Zeppelin to become a fitter though Iād be even fitter now if Iād gone.![]()
The foreman in the factory that i worked in used to have a Swans fixture list up in his office every season, even though he never went to football games and was an ardent rugby fan. It was all to check when they were playing in case i missed a shift when the Swans were home.Funny thing I was talking to my mate about something similar ish last week.
