• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

Yeah, same here. They are keen for you to replace for some reason that I can't imagine and they always seem to coincidentally have a special deal on at the time that is only for that month. Hearts of gold.

The older a boiler gets the harder it is to source parts, even the simplest of parts sometimes as well. Not that l’d advocate changing a boiler for the sake of it etc, but sometimes it’s the only option.

Not to mention the bonuses their engineers are on to sell new ones.

Couldn’t comment on that to be honest, 🤷‍♂️

Although I’d have thought that any complaints about miss selling from customers wouldn’t go down well with any boiler maintenance provider, especially the main providers.

I've serviced a lot of boilers over the years, always found the old ones to be the best, less hassle in the long run...

It was just a quick service, an in and out job, always found Special Vat worked better than White Lightning

There's an hilarious advert on TV/Radio at the moment. Lady British gas engineer waffling on about something and then she says "customers ask me should I get boiler cover insurance and I tell them yes"

What a surprise

Booked a service with a local company. Thanks all 👍

I've had an old style Potterton Profile for over 25 years. It was moved from my hall cupboard into a kitchen cupboard when I had a new extension in 2003. My plumber did it and charged me a pretty penny for doing it but he justified the cost by saying that half the time boilers don't like being moved. He ended up replacing a lot of parts on mine to the extent he lost out.
However, he told me and some BG engineers have also said, that I should not consider changing to a combi style even though it would mean I gain room by ditching the hot water tank. All said my boiler is like a tank and apart from when it was moved it has never gone wrong. Engineers have said combis are nowhere near as reliable as mine is. I know it's obsolete now but I'll keep it till it drops. I also know that there are no parts available for it anymore. I get it serviced by BG every year

Great boilers that have stood the test of time in fairness, easy enough to work on as well, sourcing parts is virtually impossible though unless you want to trust secondhand parts or Parts from China that are on EBay 🙈

It largely depends on the competence of the person servicing your boiler. British Gas for example - complete waste of time. An independent service engineer 'repaired' a Worcester boiler of ours - and there was a problem with it a few months later. The 'engineer' came back and suggested we replace the boiler. Instead, I rang Worcester Bosch who sent an engineer around and fixed the problem and gave the boiler a thorough service. I paid a bit for this - but this was four years ago.
