Have a look at the clubs facing relegation to the 6th tier

Torquay
Yeovil
Scunthorpe (!)

Scunthorpe in the League one playoffs 5 years ago and now can't even compete in the National League

Torquay have bounced up and down recently but Yeovil were in the EFL for some 16 years.

I always think we would have bounced back had the unthinkable happened, but getting back to the EFL now is worlds away from even 10 years ago

Wrexham on their 16th attempt and may screw it up again after losing yesterday.

Aye, it's got very tight at the top for the Gogs after yesterday. Equal on points with Notts County and a game in hand, but a three goal deficit in goal difference. They need to give someone a hammering.

EDIT: I didn't check the fixtures before I posted that. They have the proverbial six pointer at home to Notts Co on Monday!

Over the years, we sent quite a few youngsters to Yeovil on loan which may have been because it's not a crazy journey for someone from our staff to go and have a look at how they're doing now and then. Can't imagine National League South would be a suitable standard for our youngsters to learn much if that's where Yeovil end up next season. Seems like someone like Cheltenham are more in the frame now.

They need to seriously look at things in that league with only 1 going up automatically

Wrexham and Notts County both have 100+ points and 100 goals

The EFL Clubs have to vote for a restructure, so its the ol turkeys and christmas analogy.

Either one should piss the playoffs but they have to win another 3 games and anything can happen on the day.

Nobody is mentioning the amazing season Woking are having, they could get 90 points and come 3rd!

Darren Way was the Yeovil manager when most of our lads went there, that was the main link afaik.

Yes, that's true but he hasn't been manager there for 4 years and I thought we'd still been sending loanees there since, but I could be wrong 😁

Brandon Cooper was there for 5 minutes in 2020 but no one else since they went down iirc. We could do with a few more ex-players out there managing clubs willing to take a chance on our youngsters, they're not queuing up otherwise. Connor Roberts might be a full time carpenter now had Darren Way not loaned him in as injury cover, he was already at that age where decisions need to be made.

Unbelievable really that the likes of Scunthorpe, Oldham, Yeovil, Torquay, York, Southend, Chesterfield and Notts County were regular opponents of ours while we were coming up from league’s one and two. Particularly sad to see Scunthorpe and Yeovil in the state they are in.

Funny really how theres now so many teams in the bottom two tiers that we've never played either.

Accrington
Morecambe
Harrogate
Salford
Forest Green
Fleetwood
Sutton
Burton
AFC Wimbledon (technically)

Also Chester, Darlington, Scarborough, Kidderminster, Boston & Hereford are all in the 6th tier National League North but no ex-league clubs in the National League South.

Just shows how long it is since we were in the 3rd & 4th tiers playing all these teams. Let's hope we never have to return to those depths.

100% agreed!
The play off structure is a mess and there should be 3 up, 2 automatically and 1 play off berth, possibly even more like league two, massive incentives for those teams then, and even more competition in league 2 to avoid it.

I actually like the playoff structure itself and think the EFL should adopt it

One game knockout instead of two legs and it gives teams incentive to come in the top 2 playoff spots

Come 2nd, then the lowest team has to come to your gaff and beat you to get to Wembley.

Come 6th and you're playing away from home all the way.

Woking's season hadn't escaped my attention. I lived there for nearly 10 years '81-'90.

Does anyone remember our FA cup game away at Woking? Must have been around 80 or 81 and the scored ended up 5-3 to Swans after extra time.

Edit: Just Googled it and that match was actually December 1978 and it was a replay after a 2-2 at the Vetch.

my wife's grandparents lived in Woking, when they were alive i used to pop the wife up to see them and then i'd go over to Kingfield stadium to watch Woking.
