Can we ever love Russell Martin?

In short, no.
He's not learning.
He talks so much and on Saturday he hardly sat down and didn't shit up.
The players need to be far more vocal on the field.
They look afraid and like strangers.

We dont need to love him just need him to produce a team that wins more than it loses

I know, I’m asking if there’s any way back for him? If there’s not he should be gone. Will a few wins settle everyone down? Will anyone ever say we need to keep Russel Martin? Even Steve Cooper had his fanbois, does Russel?

For me it would take a courageous performance in the play offs. This doesn’t need to translate into promotion, I would take a gutsy defeat right now. A few wins is no longer enough as we have a full season of evidence to show that we will quickly revert to type.

Yes Cooper had his fanbois, whilst it wasn’t pretty it’s a results driven business and nobody can argue against his league positions.

Martin on the other hand has been playing a pretty style, or at least the pundits not tied to the club say so. However that won’t last long, losing 3-0 at home when you have 70% of the ball tells it’s own story.

I was talking to a mate about it this morning, a dyed in the wool Jack from Port Talbot like me but who has been living in Canada for two years for family reasons. He came back to the UK for a few weeks and used my ticket on Saturday for his first home match in two years. Needless to say, he was appalled. He also said something interesting, that he thought Martin's 'process' was very old fashioned these days. Ten or fifteen years ago, it was all the vogue as Barca, and Spain on the international stage, conquered all, but nowadays teams have learned how to set up to counter it. We certainly saw that on Saturday.
I also think we don't have the personnel to carry it off even if it is a legitimate style. Not replacing Christie and Wolff at wing back is going to be our downfall if we persist in trying to make 'the process' work.

When we lost 5-1 to Forest with 70% possession back in April the Alarm bells should have been deafening.

Love him?
I saw my first Swans game as a nipper in 1972 and I’ve never seen a manager loved by some people like this guy.
On February 12th this year on this very forum I said The minute he came in the door he was put on a pedestal and treated as if he was the God of football and I couldn’t understand why especially has he had virtually nothing on his managerial cv.

I’m seriously missing something,he was exalted to levels I’ve never seen in all my years watching the Swans and treated as if some coaching Svengali.
After his first game in charge people were saying they could see what he was trying to,I had no idea wtf they were talking about then and I have absolutely no idea today.

We must use the same opticians as I see it exactly that way. Others can still see what he's trying to do. I suggest they change theirs. :D

Was that Phil? If it was, I wish I'd known he was there, I'd have made sure I found him as I haven't seen him for a couple of years either. We've exchanged quite a few messages via FB messenger while he's been in Canada and although I knew he was back, I didn't know he was going to the Blackburn game. Do you know if he's doing Luton home on 20th? Actually, don't worry, I'll message him about that, not you!!

I honestly honestly don’t get it.

Thing is Daz, wer all over him now. Anyone who thinks otherwise is literally not all there.

Well it's because he is a very good salesman and talked a good game which is why some fans fell for it including myself but it didn't take long to see through the bullshit, now it's just really embarrassing.

His biggest problem here is he's so wrapped up in his own hype that he will refuse to change which will mean that he will be gone sooner than later.

If he stopped talking and changed the team tactics to win then with time he could be loved but he won't.

Absolutely even his biggest fans are turning.

Getting behind a new manager and looking for positives is the right thing to do. I recall you saying you couldn’t see it after the first game, as was Perch before a ball was kicked, but I can understand the need for optimism. Now, after he has been in post for a year it is absolutely fair to make that judgement and most people will have come to the same conclusion as you did back to then.

It’s absolutely clear what he’s trying to do now and it clear he has no place coaching a professional football team.
