At the end of last season when we went on that fantastic run after Martin had found a system that worked there was genuine excitement I'd say from the vast majority of the support that with a decent summer window we'd be a force in the division

The owners however couldn't let Martin calling them out go unpunished and didn't offer him a contract and he went.

We were never in with a proper chance of the play offs the last 2 years be honest with yourself ffs. Steve Cooper done a far better job than RM.

Are we really to believe that he left because of the fans wanting him out and didn't respect him enough?!! Are we really to believe he wouldn't have jumped ship even if he'd have liked the owners? With their squad and their resources, he'd have bitten Southampton's hand off for the job whatever the situation - that is the reality. And if you think he'd have turned them down based on ten wins as many mid table teams wound down for the summer meaning there were no guarantees he could sustain it, particularly knowing what he knew about the owners, you're living in some crazy fantasy land.

One thing is clear, even if he manages to take Southampton up, which will probably have to be via the playoffs (meaning there are no guarantees he'll manage it), can you seriously see him making any kind of mark with them once he's up??
