Whittaker will not get off the bench unless we are two down or one down with a short time to go. Hourihane will start. Changes will be Cabango or Guehi if fit for Lati, and Biddy for Manning.
How would you line up with Ayew and Hourihane on the bench Monny?
Grimes Fulton Smith is our best midfield. After that take your pick. I’d probably try Whittaker with Dhanda at 10. If it ain’t working we wouldn’t be weaker defensively and could always revert to Lowe/Ayew or Hourihane/Ayew.
It’s tough to leave Ayew and Hourihane out for set pieces and the odd goal, which has been vital, obviously, but other than that, they’ve been passengers mostly. Hourihane has been shocking given the fanfare, but his interventions have been critical.
So I’m not pretending it’s easy. We simply need more threat though, so it doesn’t matter who he picks if he sends them out like frightened kittens.
