In fairness, a manager can still look at a player's potential for the future while still also utilising him in the present day.

There’s no combination of players he could select where you would think he’s anything other than useless.

For the past two seasons we’ve sold every single player that we can get any serious money for and replaced them with youngsters and bizarre American loans. We are in with a shout of finishing in the top two, which we’ve never done in our history. The playoffs look like they’ve already pretty much been achieved, which would be only the third time in our history, with one of the other two coming last season under Cooper. It’s not the best football to watch, but again, it’s a hell of a lot better than we’ve seen for most of the time I’ve watched us. You seem to believe we can put together a free flowing, attacking side that can brush aside all in front of us with a group of players that, by definition, we couldn’t sell for anything meaningful.
