'Critical Incident' Declared By Welsh Ambulance Service ...

My wife works for the Ambulance service, she's absolutely terrified about getting ill, unless your in cardiac arrest your better off jumping in a taxi... (not even joking)

Sound advice, and a very sad state of affairs.

My late father in law , who was 83, fell and broke his hip in August . He waited 17 hours for an ambulance, and they told us they had come from Kidwelly for him. Then caught C-Diff in Morriston, was transferred to Port talbot where , even though he was in a room on his own , caught covid, and after 9 weeks in hospital passed away in October. The NHS in Wales is in a shocking state.

The Welsh NHS is so bad. We are way behind the rest of the UK.

Our model is “we need more money” over and over. No strategic thought, no ideas just blame game.

We spend over half of the budget on health it’s absolute madness.

The whole system should be put into special measures and renationalised to Westminster.

I don’t like saying that but unless these second rate politicians in Cardiff Bay start taking some responsibility and implementing some reforms it’s going to get worse and worse.

That’s awful mate, sorry to read that. My gran was similar last year, she fell at home and broke her hip and had a wait the same as your relative, then when it turned up she was in the back of the ambulance outside the hospital for a further 6 hours. Thankfully she was okay in the end (she’s 95 next year).

Look at that first graph. Honestly it’s appalling what Wales puts up with.

But the scrutiny isn’t there. It would be wall to wall if this was England.

“More money” that’ll sort it like it has for decades.

This is serious we all rely on the system. We need to take the politics out of it all and make some long term lasting reforms. If that upsets some people so be it.

Need to sort the social care out first, instead of constantly kicking that down the road. Getting that sorted will make a massive difference to the hospitals and waiting times.

I can agree with you there but there also has to a be a big conversation about what the NHS can realistically afford and where can gulp the private sector add some value.

There’s so much that can be done in procurement, improvements in the use of technology, robotics you name it.

The system has not been reformed and therefore any new spend is swallowed up.

Thank you . You speak to a lot of people and they have similar stories to yours and mine. Hospital should be the place you go to hopefully get well and improve your health, not catch 1 infection after another that you didn't ever catch when you were home.

Sorry to hear this, very sad.
I fell and broke my hip on 10 December and decided to go to Neath Port Talbot by car. It was not a pleasant trip there to say the least but I thought about the wait for an ambulance and decided the car was the lesser of two evils. I got checked in to NPT and they did an X-ray and confirmed a clean break just below the femoral head. I got transferred to Morriston about 7.30 the next morning and luckily a bed became available very quickly so no waiting in the ambulance.
My experience in hospital was wonderful, all staff were superb and treated us all in the ward brilliantly, the doctors and nursing staff couldn’t do enough for me. The NHS is not completely broken but needs reorganisation from the top down.

Far to much money is spent on administration staff at Morriston at least, you go bed managers ruling the roost and nor caring where they put patients, my youngest was in Hospital last January and he has complex health issues and needs and a bed manager was putting him on a Covid ward, I was in work at the time, but we had his care staff there luckily my Mrs got there asap and the move was stopped.
Luckily he's been fairly well since and long may it continue.

I saw a similar headline yesterday on Twitter and the usual oddballs are up in arms saying the government are trying to control the population again by advising us to stay at home if we’re unwell. They are an absolute joy to watch 🤣🤣🤣
