I remember my mate Ron posting this to me a while ago. A lost/dying art - recording to tape and splicing and bouncing tracks. Not many modern producers have that skill although Steve Albini still works that way.
Amazing to think that Pet Sounds was recorded on a reel to reel 4 track tape and bounced and spliced to high heaven. Shows what a genius Brian Wilson was not only as a composer but as a producer / engineer as well.

Cheap Trick re-recorded their 1977 album In Color with Albini in 1997.
It’s never seen the light of day though.

My mate Stevie (Malojian) recorded an LP with Albini a few years ago. He won a Northern Ireland Arts prize and used the money to travel to Chicago and record with Albini.

Ah right, yes he’s a bit of an eccentric kind of guy.
He was down Rick Nielsen’s restaurant in Chicago with Rick and the Foo Fighters having a munch not so long ago.

And Albini charged a flat fee based on what they could afford? That's his usual practice.
Find him a fascinating character and the sound of his recordings are like no other. Shame so much of 'In Utero' was remixed by the label. Still think the sonic impact of the first few songs of Pixies 'Surfer Rosa' are hard to beat. The drum sound .

The first episode of Sonic Highways with him in is superb.
