Been enjoying 'The Pizza Boys' on late afternoons on BBC2 this week, a 5 part series where 2 young Llanelli boys travel to Parma in Italy to compete in the World Pizza Championship. They get there in their little 3 wheeler Pizza van, complete with full on Pizza oven via a journey from their ferry terminal in Northern Spain, through San Sebastian, Bordeaux, Agen, Rome, Naples (of course) and tomorrow night onto Parma to compete using ingredients and knowledge they've gathered along the way.

Their Pizza place 'Ffwrnes Pizza' is upstairs in Cardiff Market....

My wife has an aunt and uncle who live in that little village in the hills, Bardi. I've never been there but she has multiple times.

I've been in Bologna this week and had a pizza on Tuesday night; first time ever having rabbit as a pizza topping :o I can't see Asda bringing that into the design your own range.

The 'pizza boys' went to Bardi as well, as a big percentage of the Welsh Italians that came to Wales in the early 20th Century originated from Bardi. They just love Wales and the Welsh there.

They are very very fierce / competitive by region in Italy over their recipes coops. Be it pizza or pasta they all claim to be the best. That is what I love about Italian cuisine - they are so passionate about it. Shows the UK for what it is - bereft of authentic local cuisine (unless you count fish and chips_.

Well that's clearly bollocks. A lot of British food isn't fashionable these days as we've (thankfully) been introduced to lots of dishes from other countries over the last 50(ish) years and a lot of traditional British dishes tend to be on the unhealthy end of things. But just off the top of my head, authentic local cuisine from around Britain would include:

The full breakfast
Black Pudding
Roast dinner
Pie and mash
Toad in the hole
Shepherd's/cottage pie
Ploughman's lunch
Cornish pasty
Cawl
Lancashire Hotpot
Haggis
Irish stew
Fruit Crumbles
Eton Mess
Sticky Toffee Pudding
Trifle
Cullen Skink
Laverbread
Scones
Eccles Cakes
Christmas Pudding
Bread and Butter Pudding

Sure there's plenty more I'm forgetting.

UK has really good food these days. Just tends to be overpriced compared to what we can get in Europe. 😉

You would find none of that on a menu on the continent yet you find continental food on our menus.

Says a lot doesn't it?

It is only the UK that rates our own cuisine. No one else.
