• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler
    Owner, jackarmy.net

Why should he not be captain? We're simply not in a position to judge it.

We don't see enough of the changing room/interaction every day to tell whether he is a good leader or not.

Shouting and screaming on the pitch doesn't mean you're a great captain overall.

Martin has praised him numerous times for positive leadership and helping others/younger players in the build up to games/training. Cooper picking him for captain in the first place was after observation of the squad in the day-to-day interactions.

People can call for him to be dropped or question his ability but this idea that has long existed that he is a poor captain is utter nonsense. We can never have enough information to tell either way. But the people who do, and make the decisions, and work with him all the time seem to think he is a good leader.

I know family of a young fringe first team player and I hear that the young players are full of praise of Grimes for his encouragement, advice and leadership off the pitch.

Everyone at the club speaks highly of Grimes. Including the man this this topic is about. Three managers have made him pretty much first name on the teamsheet and I can’t see it changing next season either.

As per first post, looks as if it is Palace as expected.

There's a lot of logic in what you say. All I would add is that, if I remember correctly, Grimes was a significantly better player before he was given the responsibility of captaincy. I'm not suggesting he shouldn't be captain just for that reason because it depends on whether or not anyone else is capable of stepping up to the role and if we might lose something in making that change. Again, things we don't know.

He was certainly better under Potter, but a lot were. There needn’t be anything more to it than that. He’s fine. Him being captain is the least of our worries.

Under Potter he had the freedom to attack and spray attacking passes helped out by van der Hoorn who had probably his best ever season under us playing a very similar quarterback role to what Ash used to do for us.

I wonder if Allen would now occupy the main holding position and allow Grimes to express himself like that again breaking the lines a bit more. Some of his more effective performances last season were when he was playing that sort of position (which admittedly mostly happened when we were chasing games).

From the moment Martin admitted his interest in signing Allen, it felt like sugar on the pill of Downes' departure. Wonder if this means Piroe will stay? Not 100% it does if I'm honest.

Will depend entirely on the price. If it is the 8m that has been said then I think Piroe will be off as well. Something between 13-15m and we might have some breathing room to keep him for another season.

Piroe will be off.

We’ll see movement on that middle of next week I reckon.

Someone else needs to go in order to balance the finances. Piroe is one of the more obvious choices.

WOL seem to think unless a massive offer for Piroe comes in he’ll stay now Downes is going, unlikely I’d say

Guesswork when I say we will see movement next week, not sure when it will happen, but I know it was common knowledge within the club Downes would be the first to go, and Piroe not far after.

Deals for both were discussed days after season finished.
