I hope he does anyway. Gallagher has gone on to have a superb couple of seasons, and Downes was ten times the plyer for us than he was. I know it doesn't work like that mind...

Just said on Talksport that Palace were so convinced they had Downes in the bag that they had his name printed up on a shirt ready for the press release.

Downes and the club knew he was going pretty much straight after the season had finished, assuming it must have been the Palace deal after reading your post and what they said on TalkSport then. Another reason we shouldn't take all of these "get to know" the players etc seriously, what they say in the press and what is said behind closed doors is no doubt very different.
