Dribbling

Composure and consistency are what Ronald needs to work on the most this summer. While he doesn't always beat his man on the right he has shown significant improvement in his willingness to take on his man and to get room for a cross under Sheehan than he did under Williams who spent over a year coaching the attacking instincts out of him.

We have seen Ronald put in excellent crosses, but just as often (if not more so) we have seen crosses that hit the first man or are blasted way too hard over everyone in the box. He has shown that he is capable, now he needs to show that he can be consistently capable
Although what I’ve been saying for some time is that if Ronald had consistency with his end product he wouldn’t be playing in the championship with us.

I agree, on his day he is nigh on unplayable in a similar vein to Jefferson Montero.

If Montero had been able to perform at his best more than half the time he wouldn't have been with Swansea City, he had the most insane acceleration from a standing start over 5-10 yards I have ever seen. Unfortunately the way he moves from running to a stop to a run again knackered his knees and hamstrings and he had only one cross in his arsenal - the floated dink to the back stick.

Ronald has better all round fundamentals than Montero did and he does score more goals and gets more assists than Montero too. An improvement in his composure and end product could easily see him double his goal involvements with us next season especially with Inoussa who likes to attack from the opposite flank and with Eom and Widell arriving late into the box to support the striker. All those bodies don't matter though if Ronald doesn't stop consistently blasting crosses out of touch on the opposite side of the pitch.

It's impossible not to appreciate a player who gives 110 per cent every game, and that's certainly true of Ronald. His defensive contribution is best in league for a winger, and I'm sure Sheehan and the squad appreciate that.

However, in attack I don't expect things to improve much. He has excellent pace and decent dribbling and crossing ability. It's his judgement I doubt, he just seems to make too many bad decisions for my liking. Such as attempting to cross the ball when there's a defender straight in front of him, hoping he dematerialises rather than blocking the cross. These are things that can be worked on for sure and I'd love it if he were to prove my skepticism misplaced.

Many of the raw ingredients are there, it's the bit between the two ears that needs most work.

I thought this was going to about the right wing loons on that Starmer thread.
