Skippyjack said:Duff isn't the problem Phil, runs deeper than the manager, especially with rumours of discontent amongst players and our DOF acting a bit of an idiot.. another Monk situation is happening IMO.. Fulton, Grimes, Allen, Naughton are the poison that is running fairwood, they all know they're on their way out.. the fact Grimes has convinced the owners to spunk millions on the tw*t for another 4 years is mystifying

There are still 39 games left to play and we are only 6 points off midtable.
There's been a massive turnover of players (we still had a player making his debut in Tuesday's game) so surely Duff should be given time to work with a settled side? Sacking him at this stage would mean more than a quarter of the season would be sacrificed by the time a new manager is appointed and gets to work with the players.
I do think many fans are being far too precious with some of Duff's quotes as well. Saying he wouldn't care about losing twice to Cardiff if we got promoted was met with people saying he doesn't understand the derby etc but it was a perfectly reasonable thing to say in my opinion. Too many of us would be perfectly happy to finish 20th if it meant Cardiff finished 21st and we beat them twice, it's a very small minded view.
Him saying he's here to win games and not win over the fans was another one that wasn't controversial because surely if the team is winning games then the fans would be happy? I think he meant more that it doesn't matter whether or not he is liked because the results are more important.
Unfortunately, a lot of the fanbase seem to have reached the point of no return with Duff already. Hopefully a win on Saturday will give us all a much needed boost and some points on the board but our run of fixtures in October and November look particularly difficult so it could end up being the end of Duff sooner rather than later
I know what you mean, he's a very dour personality and everything he says is black and white so it's always going to rub some people up the wrong way.Arthurmorgan said:I can agree on the Cardiff quote in its context, and you’re right, there are an element who want to beat them above all, and in essence his quote was correct, however, it was the promotion part of the comment that irked me, but also kinda made me think he’s got good ambition, what I’m meaning is he has to have that confidence, but I don’t think speaking to press is entirely his forte, I think as we’re in such a negative state, people will dwell on what he states, and that doesn’t translate well when we’re not performing, I personally would love to say we have a luxury of time to give him as I don’t want rid of any manager this soon in the process and proceedings, but if just can envisage him being the right fit at all, I really hope you’re right and I’m wrong, and we can beat Wednesday and possibly start clicking, isn’t that what we all want in fairness, but being in the shat as we are it’s just hard to see a way out and I think many feel the same way, but I also think this has been coming too not just under duff, there’s far more than management of playing behind it.

I guess it depends on who's responsible for sacking the manager now at board level. When you think that the last manager wasn't sacked despite only winning 3 games in half a season then it would suggest the board won't be making a snap decision with Duff based on less than 10 games in charge.
I'm still in the "give him time" camp at the moment but we really need to start seeing some clear improvements (in both performances and results) starting on Saturday
