Duff

If I were an outsider looking in, I would say it’s mad to suggest sacking him after 7 games.

However it is obvious from watching pre-season & the 7 games so far that the style or system he wants to implement will never work here.

It says it all that we achieved 2 play offs under Steve Cooper & the vast majority still wanted him gone because the style of play wasn’t the right match.

Duff may well turn out to be a good manager, but he just doesn’t suit this club. That’s clear to see after 7 games.

I would hope Coleman & Director of Football will now realise how important it is to find a manager who is aligned with the style we want. They obviously didn’t take that into much consideration when appointing duff.

I think Coleman and Watson are on a 'replicate Luton' crusade.

I don't think you can be far off here.
I imagine that's pretty much how the interview went( If there was an interview).
Not sure about Martin but I'm pretty sure in some previous appointments Leon,Curt and others were consulted.

"Promotion"?

Thing is, some teams are able to get promoted from the Championship playing a pragmatic (I'd personally call it tedious) style of football but those that do tend to come straight back down. I'd be amazed if Luton survive this season. Cardiff were another case in point - put the ball in the mixer and see what happens. Doesn't work in the PL anymore - even Big Sam found that out.

We survived in the PL because we played a PL style of football based on possession. It's what made us different.

I'd rather try and get promoted playing a style of football that'll keep us up. Maybe that's just me.

That was just a freak event. They should never have made it. Last year's league was the worst ever and they spawned it. I don't think they'll be troubling the scorers too much this year.

That said, I suppose 1 year of PL money and parachutes if you spend nothing is not to be sneezed at, even if you crash and burn for a year. I just don't think a team like that will make it again.

Listen, he's not gonna play football like Laudrup or Brenda, that is quite clear. The best we can expect is Cooperball, and in a nutshell that's what we're seeing at the moment, without the results of course. However, since any replacements are also likely of the same kind of style, i.e. old Nath the xG bollox brains, I don't think any changes will be made because of the style of football, or lack thereof. So as we're not going to see tiki taka or anything resembling it, I reckon he needs to be given a couple more games to sort things out results wise. After all, it's only been two games since a significant number of signings were made. He had the international break granted, but Scummer Page kind of spoiled that by taking Cabango and Cullen on a trip up the Baltics for no apparent reason.

We dont have the players to play a la Laudrup or Brenda.....show me the likes of Rangel,Ash,Chico,Leon,DeGauzman,Michu,Routeledge,Dyer,Siggurdson,SInclair,Pratley, just to name a few in our current squad

The "Swansea way" was how we did things in total as a club, not just what we did on the pitch through the Martinez, era we sourced players we thought could play to our "system" we also had a good base of players who had come from PL clubs in their early days Tate, Monk, Gower, Leon we added some "cheap" Spanish flair, loaned Gomez a pearl compare things with what we have now. It also extended beyond the pitch with Martinez working to bring the club together, the youth team ate with the first team after training ...this could be seen in our days using the Glamorgan now David Lloyds, there was a band of brothers feel to the squad. This began to disentegrate druing Laudrups time ....remember the Chico incident?
This DNA we talk about was long since destroyed in the PL years .
Martins football was nothing like Martinez's under Roberto the ball went forwards at pace rarely did we pass it around the back four , Sousa beefed us up defensively as Roberto mantra was you score 1 we will socre 2 etc then Brendan added some polish but all these guys had players suited gto the play and had been around the philosphy now we seem to source purely on budget.

We have a set of owners who care not for style of play or appreciate our history their focus in getting to the PL where they can reap rewards even make us saleable to recoup some monies perhaps.

Things are not great at the moment but if we sack Duff now who replaces him? Cam Toshack? turned down at least twice by the club and what coaching pedigree does he have?
The names of past players such as Ash and Rangel are being bandied around ...neither has any coaching pedigree and amongst the current crop of "senior" pros these two mean nothing...Its always great to be sentimental as fans... O

Funnily it seems at Barnsley and Cheltenham Duff played some good football maybe his head has been mixed up by gthe powers at be ....talking to him about being results focused over style etc following their experience of our previous manager...maybe he is trying to placate them and in doing so is not getting it right. The football is mostly crap and lacking in result but we were all prepared to give Martin time perhaps because many believed passing the ball around in our half was entertaining football....who knows ...I dont believe we will get relegated but time is ticking..but I fear we will become even more a basket case of a club as we knee jerk and become like Watford but without their financial clout

"I am not trying to hide or pull the wool over anyone's eyes. I get up in the morning - I left at quarter to five this morning, and that's my choice because I only live a couple of hours away".

Oh bless. Does he want a medal? Maybe he should move to Swansea. Then again, he will probably be sacked soon.

He’s useless. But sack him and then what? The rot starts from the top. We’re going down, quote me on that.

Thing is these owners ain't going anywhere soon and we can't have a meeting in the Patti and chuck a few sheckles into a sack and chuck it at them and tell them to fukoff

Probably takes him an hour to get to High Cross from Magor, that time of the morning

With the way these Yanks are playing their cards we'll in up in League One not the Premier League, the Premier League is light years away at the point we are now.

They need a manager who is capable of mixing things up, a manager with a DNA mix of Cooper and Martin if you like, where the fuk we find a manager like that though I haven't got a clue, I think they need to spread their net over Europe and see what's over there, probably be cheaper than trying to obtain one from the British Game.

Let’s all be totally honest. If he looses tomorrow, how long is it until the word “Untenable” is used to describe his position as manager?
Let’s truly hope we don’t loose, because as a fan your always trying to look on the bright side, but if he does, He’s not going to get sacked directly after the game anyways.
But his whole demeanour seems to come across as negative, so it’s hard to see any positives he might have.
Plus I did like his comment about us playing too slowly in the build up under Martin.
I got totally bored with Martinball, and thought what he was saying on arrival was refreshing. IE. Get the ball forwards more quickly.
So the players have to take responsibility if they are not implementing what he is coaching them in training.
But if he doesn’t possess the man management skills to communicate it to the players, there can only be one outcome, and it isn’t the 13 new players getting the sack.

The table already looks grim. QPR, a terrible side are already 5 points away, and we have some tough games ahead. Lose to SW, Plymouth, Millwall as well and we’ll be right in the cart.

I was struck by Duff’s comments that implied there wasn’t really a Swansea Way, or that nobody knew what it was, or that he’d heard several different explanations of it. It’s such an absurd and frankly dishonest comment. It seems to me to be a comment from those gammonball types who pine for a simpler era with hulking monsters playing long ball percentage football. We’ve heard these snide comments before from the likes of Warnock, Pulis and Allardyce. They bridle at the implication that the newer brand is somehow superior to their favoured approach, and perhaps feel that clubs and supporters who favour passing football have a smug and superior attitude.

At its worst it seems like a kind of inverse snobbery and resentment against those who aspire to change or improve themselves. Now, it’s one thing for people outside the club to dish out these types of comments, but for our manager and some coaching staff to come out with stuff like this is beyond the pale.
