Duff's post match comments

The last thing he should be doing is making the players think this doesn’t matter. Ten points from 5 games and he could pull it off. At the moment Norfolk and chance.

I don't think it was the wisest thing to say, but has anyone considered that he's probably trying to take the pressure off the players a bit? At the moment they look clueless as to what they're supposed to be doing out there (which Duff has to both take responsibility for and find a way to correct on the training ground), so admitting the derby is a must win is hardly going to be beneficial is it?

Don't think he was being asked if it was a 'must win'.

And I honestly don't think he's clever enough to play mind games like that with the players anyway. He's very....basic. I don't think he possesses that level of thinking.

The point is, he's invited unnecessary pressure on himself now. If we lose that game, he'll have no shortage of our supporters on his back for "not caring enough" about the fixture beforehand. Which imo is pretty ridiculous, but that's not the world we actually live in, we all know that is what will happen because that's how fanbases work when their team isn't playing well and loses derby matches.

Let's see how it plays out - perhaps we'll win at Legoland and he'll get away with it. But it's very clear from his first few months, he's not got a clue how to handle the media.

I think you're probably bang on the money with the bit I highlighted above.

For what it's worth, I also think you were right recently when you talked about the club going from manager to manager while seemingly not knowing what we want from them (other than wins of course). We went from a pragmatic manager in Cooper to a more idealistic 'vision' type manager in Martin who was all about possession at all costs, now we seem to have gone back to a pragmatist in Duff. It doesn't suggest the people running the club have any kind of plan.

It's amazing how posters who had nothing to say about about yesterday's signings (apart from a few sly digs at Lowe) have suddenly found their keyboards now that the Legacy Martin defence has yet again shipped goals and the manager has made an off-hand remark that we all probably wish he'd kept to himself although most of would agree with it.

Fact is, the Church of Martin was largely built on supporters too young to remember the Premier League who mistook two Derby wins for success. Enjoyable though it was to do the Double (and the Double Double), the sooner we let go of the crack pipe of Cardiff-envy the better.

I agree with this in the Cardiff sentiment, there are many a “fan” that put beating Cardiff at the top of a list, and yeah, it is important, and yes it’s the fixture I look for first when we’re in the same division, it’s a day hated and loved in equal measures dependant on result, great we did the double, and did it first, and again 🤭 but sometimes I feel as a whole, bringing out scarves etc commemorating that “achievement” is way ott, only my opinion, and too much emphasis is laid on it, of course as we speak it’s the next game and a baptism of fire for all, as it’ll be doldrum times if we lose and vitriolic on here, which is understandable, but as a set of two league games it’s as important as any other game, but it’s the fixture when every kn@b head seems to come out to play who claim to be the biggest swans fans ever if we triumph, not saying we should dumb the occasion down, or even shut up about a win should we get one….or 4 😂 but in the grand scheme they’re unimportant as an entity and we need to just be bothered about how we do over an entire season, not just 6 points on offer in those 2 fixtures.

Their only idea of a "plan" was sticking Jake Silverstein on Reddit to take the temperature of the fanbase (thinking that a Reddit thread is representative of the true feeling, when it's just a small subset of the fanbase on there), homing in on the fact that a few people mentioned they wanted more of a focus on results (who'd have thought eh! Fans wanting to see their team win!).

So - thinking they'd got this football lark off to a T because JackBastard3421 on Reddit's said he wanted "a results man" - instead of doing the sensible and sane thing and going for a continuity appointment to build on some of the good work Martin did, they decided to throw the baby out with the bathwater, and let a CEO, who knows nothing about football, head hunt a moderately successful diet-Sean Dyche lower league coach because apparently "he gets results". And who now, surprise surprise, is completely out of his depth having never managed at this level, and is now coming out with increased amounts of drivel in media interviews as the job continues to swamp him.

That's their idea of a plan.

Your analysis of the mindset may be spot on, I can’t comment. Point of order though, Duff’s not a diet anything.

I’m not against Duff at all. He’ll need time to adapt the players to new tactics and methods. The new signings, I think, will help and allow players to perform in their correct positions. Still think we’re lacking an attacking midfielder.

However, if this is attitude to the Cardiff match I’d keep him out of the changing room and leave the team talk to the Chef. Again.

Duff needs to be given time, but he looked absolutely dejected sitting on his ass in the dugout with 15 minutes to go when Pearson was orchestrating his players from the edge of his technical area, body language speaks volumes when your side needs leading from the front.

Very worrying.

Our new manager is clueless when it comes to speaking to the press. The warning signs have been there from his early days in Swansea, these comments just confirm it.

Martin spoke predictable bollocks, whereas Duff is talking nonsense from obscure angles.

Arguably the upcoming derby is the most important for us for years given the start we’ve made and the springboard a win could be

Could not get much bigger. We need a first win.

Clearly four new signings with a bit of expereince is going to help and hopefully Allen is fit enough to start.

Reminds me of when we brought Leon back in and the whole team improved.

Joes got the desire and heart, but his body looks shot.

Maybe Duff looks dejected because the players simply won’t do what he wants (like run and tackle). Like Clough at Leeds in 1974. No I’m not equating Duff with Clough, except for the purposes of rhyme.
