You do realise that the virus has no care of your worldview?

You could get a job at the BBC with that kind of scaremongering comment! Thing's need to move on..Look at this https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/, 6 deaths, 1,000 plus infections, blah blah blah..

We can't carry on like this, let's get back to normal asap

Pleas point out which point of "You do realise that the virus has no care of your worldview?" is scaremongering...

I took it, that by you saying that you are not agreeing with his comment? Well that's the way I read it anyway, sorry if I got it wrong! I was just about to get up the facts and figures from the Hong Kong flu 1968 death toll 1 million, currently covid is just short of 800k..https://www.sinobiological.com/research/virus/1968-influenza-pandemic-hong-kong-flu#:~:text=The%201968%20influenza%20pandemic%20(the,estimated%20one%20million%20people%20worldwide.

But we never stopped nothing for that?

It's a lot more nuanced than that but Raynor has a simplistic conservative worldview that is far removed from reality. (When a disease is novel and it's parameters unknown) Lockdowns work! PERIOD. Other things must follow to get nations/regions/towns out of lockdown...controlling the R rate, large scale testing and tracing, a vaccine on the horizon all this with the population following the rules. That went out of the window with Cummings being an arsehole and the world's worst contact tracing system and politicians making decisions for political not scientific reasons.

As to your link, it wouldn't open for me..it's late, perhaps server maintenance. What I will say is that comparing an ongoing pandemic with others which have run their full term is silly. Putting aside we are only just starting to learn of the long term health issues from survivors of moderate infection (and worse), we have no idea how long this disease will run and the number of fatalities and disablements.

Like the virus this pandemic will evolve.

Hardly any of the cafes in Neath seem to be socially distancing their customers.

Life has to move on you can't keep people locked down forever.

Thank god Supermarkets have stopped that stupid queuing.

It's not locking anyone down by asking them to keep a few feet apart when having a cup of tea or shopping for groceries.

They did for the pandemic of 1918.Entire cities were locked down and there was quarantining.Cities that locked down did far better than those that didn't

And this will be what happens. Not general but local. Cases shoot up in the community in Swansea, then the city locks down.

See what happens, but my thinking is cases rising is irrelevant if the deaths are falling! https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/08/21/despite-positive-tests-coronavirus-death-rate-continues-fall/

I know people say they are testing healthy people, and that's why the cases are higher and the deaths are low..so that means it must be therefore in the general population more than it was back a few months ago.

Fair enough, so why did they ignore it in 1968? From when I was looking last night, covid is still 200,000 deaths lower than the Hong Kong Flu.

Queuing at supermarkets was “stupid”?

I think Raynor just made a complete prat of himself

There's still queues in a few places. Major difference is people aren't being fucking idiots over shopping. Might change if there's another lockdown but until then a bit of sanity has returned.
