Anyone renewed their energy recently?

Just doing mine and there aren't any savings to be had, unless you go on a variable tariff.

On the fixed tariffs, I'm looking at an extra £500 a year

Also, I've always done automatic switching through the Martin Lewis website, but this year the big companies won't let them sort it for us.

I do the same via the legend that is Martin Lewis. Currently with Utility Point but had this email this week...

"Despite substantial interest and continued negotiations with several suitable parties and best efforts, recent international and national circumstances have created a perfect storm of events which has meant that Utility Point will cease trading and another supplier will be taking over your supply."

So, I'll be switching soon and jumping into the perfect storm!

I tied in with a cheap company and within two months they were out of business and I was automatically switched to EDF anyway (who were chosen by the administrators). It was a ball ache and not worth the relatively small savings so I'll stick with a big company in future

And an extra £500 a year? Fuck me, my gas and electricity for the entire year only comes to about £550. Didnt realise they had mansions in Neath

Nothing to do with mansions in Neath, have a google to see what is happening with energy prices at the moment. Going to go up even more after October 1st as well. I've managed to limit my increase to £200 over the year by staying with my current provider.

I believe you. Last month I fixed with EDF for the next 3 years at a similar rate to what I was on previously. I must've got lucky with the timing

A lot of people will have to decide between heating and food this winter.

I had a renewal from E.on the the other day offering me to fix for another year at bargain price of ~30% uplift on last year!
If I choose not to renew and leave the account roll on it approaches 40%.

Only read about gas prices earlier today. Did think E.on were pulling a fast one and was about to tell them to FO, might keep that FO for another time.

I'm just thankful that I've had my rads replaced this last few months :)

Likewise, signed up through them via Look after my bills. in less than 5 months UP has disappeared and we feel like we might have been dropped into it from a great height! Got to wait until a new supplier is chosen by Ofgem. Hopefully all those affected by this and no doubt other companies in the not too distant future aren't royally screwed over!

All the very best with the Switch Jinxy

Don’t you dare criticise the government though unless you’ve got something to say about Diane Abbot.

Just done mine, gone up 40% ish. Couldn’t get anything close to what I was paying last year. Where’s that hike come from?

Hi Dan.

Watching BBC breakfast this morning they are saying that any credit you have with a company that's gone bust will be protected, your energy will still be supplied (phew!), and also that your contract will be honoured by whoever takes over the supply in the interim. I switched in Feb, and am on the "Just Join UP 21 12M Fixed Wk05" (where do they dream these names up from?!) contract, so it should stay as is/was until Jan.

So if anyone else is in this position, these protections and measures should apply.

My fixed deal ran out in April and due to a combination of being busy in work, busy at home, a little apathy and seeing the prices had gone up and thought they’d come back down I didn’t look for a fixed term deal and went on to a standard variable rate which could have saved me about £250 per year or £5 a week. The standard rates are now fixed until March next year, so I might just hold out and stick where I am to see what happens.

I think we’re getting ripped off tbh - everything is going up after the pandemic. The next thing we’re going to see is food prices go up even more as there a shortage of CO2.

Last time we switched - four months ago - courtesy of MSE, we wound up with Igloo on a variable rate.

B@gger me. Our monthly DD began at £76, leapt almost immediately to £90, and is now £107. I will be cracking out the base layer and fingerless gloves soon.
