The UK’s independent footballing nations are causing division, according to the editor of a Conservative news site.
Henry Hill, the news editor at ConservativeHome, said that Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland having their own “sub-national” teams and leagues was damaging to Unionism.
“It’s a shame that the UK doesn’t have a national football team of its own during events like the Euros,” he wrote in the Spectator.
“ The game is a natural focus for patriotic pride across the world, but here it can only spotlight our divisions. This seems to have become much more the case over the past few decades, with the rise of nationalism and the apparent retreat of the Union Jack from the stands.”
He added that with “saving and strengthening the Union supposedly one of this government’s top priorities, it cannot afford to neglect the question of sport — and football in particular”.
Merging the football leagues of Wales, England and Scotland was another option on the table, he added.

That should please all the antiSenedd pro Boris bunch

I'm very pro the Union until I read garbage like this.

If this twat thinks having 4 national teams is divisive, does he not realise that having the entire Welsh, Scots & N Irish populations being represented in a major tournament by 11 English players on the pitch would be even more divisive?

8-) Ukraine v Austria is an interesting one

2nd place plays Italy at Wembley

Draw gets both through

If/when they are drawing with 20 minutes left. It'll become blatant.

This business of the linos not putting their flags up right away for offside is doing my head in. What is the point of that? If a guy's offside, he's offside, it's not going to change if you wait three or four seconds, and then you let play go on a bit and p*ss off all the players and fans who think they've scored. Just WHAT is the point?

Three or four seconds? Double that sometimes. Utterly ridiculous from the rule makers.

I had tickets for that game until someone made a ruling on capacities, seating plans and the other quirks that have arisen in recent times.

Finland vs Belgium
Russia vs Denmark

I fancy the Belgians and Danes to overcome in both matches, which leaves 3 teams on 3 points, I can't be bothered with working it all out, maybe someone can enlighten me?

If Belgium and Denmark win they both go through from what I remember.

Just had a look, you're correct, Denmark go through on goals scored if Finland fail to score against Belgium, if it's 3-2 in the Belgium-Finland game and 1-0 in the Denmark game, Finland go through on goals scored, but it's all irrelevant if Russia win or draw, Finland win

Head to head is the first tie breaker, GD comes second.

That’s why Russia (GD-2 and 3 points) are currently above Finland (GD 0 and 3 points).

So Denmark are out, sweet, I'd rather play Russia or Finland than Denmark

Edit, Denmark could go through as 3rd place

No. Denmark can beat Russia and will go above them on H2H. They finish second if Belgium beat Finland and if they have a better GD than Finland.

That's impossible if it's h2h.. Finland and Denmark will have 3 points each, but Finland have the h2h
