Euro 2020 Thread

Before this thread slips away, can anyone enlighten me on the significance of the "Sweet Caroline" song to England's participation? It has completely passed me by.

Not sure, but just like with 'please don't take me home', England fans are quick to try and co-opt a song or chant made popular by others. Boston Red Sox were the first sports team to make it popular at their stadium and Aston Villa have been using it as an unofficial club anthem for a few years now.

One day one of them will come up with something original...

Edit: although I've just seen that it was Toon fans who started 'please don't take me home', so maybe we're just as bad...

They did a survey I think where people voted for 'something uplifting' to use as an official theme for the English endeavors at the competition. Three Lions by Baddiel and Skinner (?) was included but somehow didn't get the vote. Guess it's been used before and they tried something new.

We kept hearing the Neil Diamond song often here in England before we made the trip over there and couldn't understand why it was in connection with the English 'football' team. Got on the nerves after so long as did "It's coming home" ...

Well I'll say it again and this time it's for keeps, thank F--k the damn thing's over. Life can (once again) return to some order.
