I watched the Spanish TV News this morning. There were reports on the reorganisation of the Spanish cabinet by the Spanish prime minister, the assassination of the Haiti president by Columbian mercenaries, the ongoing recovery efforts at the Miami apartment block collapse, the covid vacination efforts and latest infection rates in the various European countries, the WHO warning against relaxing covid restrictions too soon, the G20 conference on fighting tax evasion by large corporations, in sport the victory of Argentina over Brasil in the Latin American Cup Final, the Tour de France 14th stage victory by Bauke Mollima.

I switched over to BBC Breakfast and was taken to a council estate in Bermonsey bedecked with St George flags for a 'penalty shoot out' in the concrete courtyard using a mini kids goals between two corpulent Englishmen and two token Italians, whilst a spotty reporter screamed breathlessly at the excitement of it all.

That may be because Spain aren’t in the euro 2020 final later today. Call it a hunch. I’m sure Spain is as great as you always tell us it is but I’m equally as sure that if Wales were in the Euro 2020 final the news here would be equally as exited and excitable as the English news is today.

Danny Mills on BBC this morning discussing Italy's mastery of "dark arts" of football completely ignoring the questionable penalty that got them to the final.

I don't really care if they win, but it would be funny to see them lose in a similar fashion to how they got into the final.

Yes i too find it quite hilarious that they have selective memories, iirc only wright and shearer have mentioned the penalty being dodgy and how they would feel if it happened to them.

I've always believed that what goes around comes around, they are due a decision going against them, if they win fair and square there will be no complaints from me.

It definitely would be in Spain ecb but I bet that in Italy it's nowhere near as bad as over here and if Spain had got to the final it would be the same as Italy.

Correct. It would be a huge news story but it wouldn't dominate the main morning news programme to the exclusion of everything else.

I'm dreading tonight. If Italy go 3 nil up in the first 10 mins, I may actually open my peepers. As I said before, I've nothing against Southgate and the squad (apart from their nationality!), it's the media, pundits and entitled fans I hate. The media go OTT here on everything, e.g. Covid, Prince Phillip etc. (the words News has been lost - News means NEW stories), but for us and the jocks we're in for a few decades of pain if, perish the thought, they win.

Same reason Kane didn't get booked for simulation against Denmark, and the Sterling dive for the penalty wasn't overturned by VAR to get them over the line...
