He may well be what we’ve been looking for and let’s hope he is, but how you can say that based in that ‘highlights’ thing is beyond me.

It’s one of the least ‘wow’ highlights reels that’s been posted on here in ages. Could have put together a better highlights reel from Clucas who was the absolute worst midfielder I’ve ever seen for the money paid.

He's a cdm whos decent at passing and dribbling, not sure any highlights reel will make that look amazing
This is a Gill and Martin signing whove played against him twice last season so judging they know exactly what theyre getting

Oh, I completely agree. And they will hopefully have made a great choice. My point was that a highlights reel is not the way to judge at the best of times, and anyone watching that and getting besides themselves is watching something different to me. His dribbling section involved him getting the ball and falling over a few times.

Ive only seen bits, but is a bit like Grimes, play maker who comes deep to collect the ball, likes a challenge, got a bit of fire to him sometimes

I can find absolutely nothing to support the claims being made for him.

I find it quite strange that people think of Grimes as a playmaker. His role seems mainly to receive the ball from our CBs and start us going forward - but in reality his percentage ball is to the LB/LWB. He has defensive duties, obviously, and I consider him better at that role. From the clips on YT, Downes seems a far more forward thinking player - and also plays further forward than Grimes.

We’ve definitely rocketed to a new level since 2016. Reminds me of Cardiff with Watters and how they’d pulled off a coup by beating little Swansea to a lower league ‘diamond’. Whatever happened to him?

but I know what you mean. That show reel had a for challenges that would have been pinged in the Championship.
