From Modric to Mid Table: Is Sheehan Out of His Depth?

Completely agree with your conclusion.

We have to have a period of stability. Blaming managers for squad weakness or imbalance can’t continue.

I’ve said before that Sheehan wouldn’t have been my choice but I could completely understand why he was given the role. I don’t think now is the time to change again, albeit I genuinely think we are pretty poor at the moment. Not so much in results, but in lack of creativity, formation, attacking intent, intensity, just sheer entertainment to be honest.

I find us just boring to watch. But changing manager won’t necessarily inject creativity into the players we have. Nor shape.

I can’t help think that we are focussing on buying players as individuals, (looking at resale opportunities) rather than buying a coherent team. Let’s hope that as the weeks go by we become more coherent than we are.
How long to you keep flogging a dead horse(Sheehan) though, we have picked the wrong head coach. Do we waste another couple of seasons or should we be like Watford and just change it straight away.

My kids have turned down going to the next couple of games with me because we are that boring to watch.

Perhaps your kids aren't ment to support thier local side? And that's not a criticism in any way.

I would assess after Wrexham, just before Christmas and the window. That’s 12 more league matches plus Man City.

If we haven’t improved and there’s someone available who’s a better fit, perhaps then would be the time.

Oh we are really boring. I get that. I’m just not certain that changing all the time is the way to go.

Having said that, do I think Sheehan will be here this time next year? Probably not. But I think we need to give him more of a chance than this to prove himself.

He needs to change tactics thats for sure. Two things that are a constant and deffo need to change is Key forever running up the wing and then stopping and passing back happens 95% of the time he makes the run and secondly when we have a free kick one player runs and stops and the 2nd player delivers that happens 100% of the time and leaves us 1 short elsewhere on the pitch and every opposing team knows it's going to happen.

It's accumulation of the last two managers and Sheehan is keeping the trend going. There are at the ages now where meeting up with friends on a Saturday afternoon is more engaging than watching our football games, unfortunately.

Absolutely, a lot going on for them at that age, hopefully they will find the Swans in a few years time 🫶

Someone mentioned above about getting into threatening positions and then turning back. Ronald and Key are both guilty. But perhaps Ronald has to play to protect Key?
The 2 players we have seen that are prepared to try things are Inoussa and Eom - and for those reasons I would start with both out wide.
Maybe Casey at RB - because he is a proper defender, and has impressed me.
The other thing is to get Galbraith on the ball as much as possible - lined up alongside Stamenic - and then take your pick for the AM or 2nd striker.
Instructions need to be work a 1 on 1 - and then attack the defender and deliver the ball into dangerous areas.
Declining to cross the ball, slowing down and playing it safe is the tactic that is literally killing us right now,
It was interesting that the first half yrsterday we were at 87% passing accuracy and 77% for the second half. I know which half I would like to see - not that it was good - but the first half was diabolical.

I’m at the age where cleaning the kitchen is more engaging than watching our football games so I understand completely, 😂

I wasn’t looking forward to watching the game yesterday but did because I could without putting myself out.
The number of times I said what am I doing, there was no enjoyment at all just more and more frustration

Superbly written article which basically puts into words what most swans fans are thinking 👍
The content is right but I hate reading articles which consist mainly of dozens of 2, 3 or 4 word sentences which aren't actually sentences at all. Tbh, I couldn't finish this one. Are they written by AI? Think I'll give the next one a miss.

Don't read it then - I will balance by saying I thought it was well written, clearly AI assisted but thats the way of it these days and I think it makes for a much better read as a result of it. Im not sure why anyone would care whether you have the attention span or brain capacity to read it or not but why take a dig at those who take the time to try and produce content. Maybe try and do better yourself or maybe go and read another site?

From the owners perspective, I suspect they’ll want more than they’re getting from the team that they’ve invested in. I suspect that they’ll have half an eye on the size of the crowd and half an ear on the crowd’s reaction to what they’re seeing.
If they opt to change soon they’ll be admitting that they got it wrong and they’ll be acutely aware that they need to get it right this time. Who’s available and at what cost? Do they spend a chunk of the money earmarked for squad strengthening in January on paying off Sheehan and his coaching team?
I’ll be surprised if the manager is changed this season. The way things are I’ll be surprised if Sheehan is the manager next season.

Interesting comments through this thread.
Certainly makes people think.
We have some good players who seem like rabbits caught in the headlights at times a few times this season.

We can't keep sacking and changing managers, otherwise we end up with someone like Brad Bobbley again.
Personally, I would give Shee's another 5 or 6 games, maybe until we play Hollywood. See if he can turn things around.
His record so far this season will see us safe around mid table
I'm not including the Man City game in that 5 or 6 games
Cup games can be extremely strange and throw in some unexpected shocks that can skew the thinking.
We beat City 5-1, Shee's is a magician, kept on forever as manager- we lose by 6 or 7 and there will be people that reckon Shee's should end up like crooked copper Terry at Mumbles Pier.

End of last season and the way the transfer window was going, gave me a serious boost after watching Martinball, Duffball and Martinball lite.
Can't believe that some tw@s wanted to see Martinball again down here. Probably still do. We do have some seriously strange fans

I really hope Shee can turn us around and play like we did at the end of last season.
That will give us some stability and hopefully a really good season

So you don't think after a full pre season under his belt that the players would have a plan in place and be champing at the bit. It was a completely gutless and clueless performance, the fans that paid decent money for that deserved far better.

Your obsession about an opening day 1-0 away defeat to the team currently 1 point behind the leaders is, in my opinion, a little odd. It reads as just more of an excuse to attack a manager you had already decided you didn't like. Maybe it's because you wanted us to appoint that Scandinavian manager you mentioned the other day.

We lost 2-0 at Charlton first game in our Championship season under Martinez and ended up having a fine season.
We lost 2-0 at Hull under Rodgers in the season we were promoted.
We lost 4-0 at Man City in the PL and ended up finishing comfortably mid-table.

I'm sure there's plenty of other examples if I could be bothered to trawl through more of our season-by-season results. The point is that pinning so much on one game just doesn't make any sense.
