Very much doubt he is the only top flight footballer who is gay. Hopefully this will be the first step for others to be able to come out too.
Huge moment for gay players and how this is reacted to by teams and fans will say a huge amount about society as a whole and I have no doubt that other players who have not come out will be paying very close attention.

Good on him, brave lad.

Won't be long until you see a player over here doing similar after that imo.

Amazing it's taken this long and makes the news really, especially after Justin Fashanu came out such a long time ago.

As has been said - brave and all respect to him.

Doing a bit of quick maths - 6% of the UK population is gay, there are 517 Premier League players - meaning that 31 of them are gay. Multiply this by the number of professional leagues and you're looking at a good 100-ish playing in the UK at the moment.

It's now time for players to come out, comfortably (and if they wish to do so).

I honestly think they would be supported incredibly well now. Obviously you're going to have the odd idiot or two, just like with racism, but I can't see groups of 100s of people shouting homophobic chants any more.

He's lucky Vinny Jones isn't still playing football.

More importantly, the profession is lucky the thug Jones isn't still playing football...

Good on him.
Hopefully we get to a point soon when this isn't news

Hear hear.

I’m always of an opinion that if someone is good at something what the hell does it matter what colour, creed, gender, sexuality etc. they are?! The stigma needs to end.

I'm pretty sure that no one care's about this a nymore....I wish more would come out because there is no stigma anymore, and after the odd moron shouts something moronic, it'll move on and we can all move on...and that we have to accept people's rights.

Why ?
Is Vinny jones homophobic ? I am genuinely shocked if he is. Seems a decent bloke.
