Goal kicks before last season

I find this play out from the back at all cost, very scary.
Especially when our team don't understand how and when to do it.

There have been times when the long, very quick kick out would have worked out well.
Number of times Mike, Joel or Olivier would have been clear from the half way line over the last season and a bit.
Now that would have stopped the opposition defence being all in our area.
Or the opposition keeper acting as a midfielder up towards the halfway line.

For about 6 months last year, I defended Martin (OK. I was wrong but hey ho) as I could see what he wanted from us and was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
But, he has no idea how to coach what he wants.

Our defence can't defend.
Our midfield can't boss the midfield.
Joey must be wondering why he came here and what he's let himself in for.

We have strikers and attacking players dropping back to our penalty area, to try and get the ball to mount an offensive.

We're truly broken and this is going to be a long, hard season.
Don't see the yeehaas getting rid of Martin.
Or the club.

The way we used to pass out from the back under Rodgers, Martinez, Laudrup etc was the centre backs split to either side of the box, defensive midfielder dropped deep, full backs pushed up, If opposition pressed keeper would chip to the full backs otherwise keeper could pass to a centre back and we could move forwards by triangle style passing. More often than not we would keep possession and get up to at least half way where we could look to build. This had advantages over just booting the ball up to half way as it would just keep coming back.
The way we do it now seems crazy to me 1 defender back who get the ball from the keeper who then moves forward. The risk to reward ratio of this method seems far too risky to me

There's nothing wrong with passing out from the back but the way Russ does it is very odd.

It's almost like he has no clue about what he is trying to do.

This is why we spaffed on Fisher. This is his BIG idea.

I need a drink

Stay cool, Trig!

I genuinely think the squad doesn't have the slightest clue what Martin's "tactics" are. At the risk of being accused of harping on about it, watch again the training ground video where he blithers on about "playing with detail".

I defy anyone on here to be able to explain what he was talking about.

Its even more of a concern that the club released that as an official video as if it's something to be proud of.

I'm with Lisa - Martin is a complete fraud who just can't see that it is he and he alone who must take responsibility for the dire start to the season.

Someone on here yesterday posted a comparison between the playoff 2021 squad and today's - there's not a significant difference in the first 11 then and now, although it is true there is a worrying lack of depth.

I'm coming to the view that Martin hasn't lost the dressing room; I wonder if he ever had it with his cliché ridden bullsh*t
