I don't really mind if those who are big fans of him give him a warm welcome pre kick-off/after the game, although I wouldn't join in.

I would urge anyone thinking of giving him stick to ignore him instead. If he's got the kind of ego that it's been suggested he has, then being completely ignored would probably be the worst thing he could experience.
