• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

Off to Liverpool then.

When you think about it, we've had some
Unbelievable players over the years - Guehi, Gyokeres (shite with us), Gibbs white, Ayew

Nothing will ever convince me Gyokeres is any good 🤣
One thing he is good at is believing his own hype, not that you can blame him foe that seeing as he's produced the goods.

And on that point I've managed to contradict myself. :ROFLMAO:

As you were :ROFLMAO:

I honestly don't get it. Two average/decent seasons at Coventry in the Championship and one good season in Portugal.

No idea how that equals the 90-odd million that's being thrown around.
He scored 40 in 97 in his two seasons at Coventry after signing permanently. This earned him a move to Sporting Lisbon for around £20m. Piroe scored 46 in 96 for us and no-one here would be saying that was only average.

Gyokeres then scored 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting over the past two seasons, which is considerably better than 'one good season'. There is the caveat that plenty of strikers have scored lots in Portugal and struggled in 'better' leagues, so I imagine his 6 in 8 in the Champions League last season helped.

Sporting are pretty good at driving a hard bargain, but I doubt it would get anywhere near £90m if he is sold this summer. Man United may go near that if they're desperate enough, but they should have learned their lesson on overpaying by now.

I agree that there is a fair bit of revisionism on here from some just to help themselves conveniently forget that he was one who got away.

He never got going under Cooper, be that the style of play or the culture shock of trading Brighton for Swansea but it never worked out. I can only imagine that if he goes for anything close to the 90m that Sporting are asking for surely Coventry have at least a 10-20% sell on clause - even just 10% would be another £7m in their coffers.

May need to revaluate this post... his record at sporting is phenomenal

Nunez has struggled at Liverpool after tearing it up in Portugal.

Amorim the same, clearly doesn't have the chops for Premier League management.

Gyokeres would be an enormous risk for anyone stupid enough to gamble £90m on him. No evidence at all he can do it in a top league.

I'd maybe amend that second sentence to Amorin doesn't have the chops for Man United. Jury is still out of course, but he's likely to join a list of managers who don't have the chops for that basket case club post-Fergie, alongside Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho, Solskjaer, Rangnick, ten Haag.

Other managers from Portugal have done OK in the PL - the aforementioned Mourinho, Marco Silva, Nuno Santo, Vitor Pereira. I won't add Carvalhal to that list...
