Harry Darling …

IMO I look for fundamentals, and I see something in Delcroix - he is young, has pace and is left sided. You cannot expect him to play once a month and be Beckenbauer..
There is a player in there I believe.
I am not so convinced
He is also clumsy, has severe lapses in concentration and suspect decision making
I would rather us go back for Joe Low who will now be out of contract in the summer

Don't disagree re other options - but I DO disagree with folks who write him off after 11 appearances which were sporadic and often off the subs bench. He has pace and is left sided and versatile.
You don't get to play 50 times for Anderlecht and appear for the Belgian National team if you have nothing going for you IMO

I remember Marc Guehi's 1st 4 appearances. Three howling mistakes that gifted two goals and look where he is now.

Nice to see things happening faster with the current management. Rumour was Darling was going in for talks next weds but its already been done. Also have our first signing already and announcement will be made next week on out of contract players. Allen and Naughton offered extensions on low numbers.

Richard Montague
Alan and I had him in the office for about an hour earlier trying to persuade him why Swansea is the best place for him to continue his career, and we really believe it is," Montague added.

Given it's been brought up again that Darling had his ego bruised a little by the fact that the club put on a big show and dance to get Cabango to sign, but didn't for him, I'd be shocked if the club hadn't tried to get Luka to have a word with HD6 given he claimed he was his hero growing up. Give Luka a brief rundown of the situation and see if he'd give Harry a quick call. Not saying that's going to overcome Brum offering him 10k more a week or anything, but if he's on the fence and wants a bit more love, that would surely help.

Not sure how much Swansea can do. If he leaves the knives will be out for the club to some extent. But let's face it. He has had offer, after offer. And now he has Modric, who is, his favourite player and now his boss and has a manager he likes and respects and a team he can grow in. I have this odd feeling that the injury and him not turning up to the awards screams, diva. If so let him go bring in a replacement.

Yeah maybe smatterings of the Patterson saga, agent telling him not to play so he dont get injured

I also think the club releasing this news could be a sign they aren't too optimistic. It could be seen as getting ahead of the curve on it, anticipating he may not sign - a way of making it clear that we did all we could, gave him a good financial offer, gave him the hard sell etc so fans can't point the finger at us for not doing enough if/when he moves on.

I agree. If he signs it shows we really pushed for it and if he doesn't then it shows the same. And it falls on him. I say move on. I really like Darling, but we can't be going into late summer window without replacement. I'm confident we will get someone early and get few back ups as well.

Darling is one of the best defenders in the division when it comes to aerial threats from set pieces. Combine that with a player who is very streetwise when it comes to winning freekicks off of pressing attackers and someone with above average long pass distribution and it would be a real loss if he doesn't sign.

At the very least by the sounds of it the club have done everything they can after being left to pick up the dog turd off the lawn by the previous ownership.

What a load of nonsense, Darling is your typical Cooperman average journeyman, go to an average university and end up some managerial tw*t the company can't get rid of, because he's been like a piece of furniture with piss stains on it.. we need players with potential to go up to the level and stay there, Darling isn't good enough, it doesn't need a genius like me to say it.. Darling doesn't defend well enough, and this is at championship level, we want players who will compete for a place in the Premier League.. it only takes a cup tie to see the humongous gulf.. 35k a week, on your bike son

Harsh, we have had many an average journeyman CB come through our club, Darling for me is a cut above.

Has he lived up to his early potential, perhaps not yet, but in this system he could continue to grow his game.

Christ skippy what did he do to you? Roger your missus or something?

Interesting fact, the only three games that Sheehan have lost this season were the three games that Darling was absent for. He has also scored 3 goals in his past 6 appearances and was part of the side every time we kept a clean sheet since Sheehan took over. Not sure what more evidence you want?

I don't know which cup tie you are referring to to see the humongous gulf, at first I thought you may have meant the Southampton FA cup game, but Darling didn't play in that one - nor would I look at any game where our players were coached and organized by Williams.
