Harry Darling …

No, we were rubbish in 2024 an all, Darling was playing, in fact we were rubbish all through Williams tenure.. I didn't say he was crap, just an ordinary CB at this level, just like Grimes was ordinary at this level.. no PL teams will come in for Darling this summer, because defensively he's got a ricket in him.. the frustrating part about him is he's aggressive inside the oppositions penalty area, but he's weak as piss in his own box defending, it's odd
A huge portion of that has to do with the cluelessness of the manager who's tactics were leaving the defenders and the goalkeeper hopelessly exposed week in week out.

No one is advocating to pay him £35k a week, that would be beyond our budget for any player even Darling or O'Brien. However since Sheehan took over in 12 games (he has played in 9 of those) he has helped us to keep 7 clean sheets and scored 3 goals. What more do you want from a centre half?

No way is Darling work £35k a week, half of that is stretching it. That said, he’s not the first CB in recent times to have his game negatively influenced by the tactics imposed on him.

Excellent with the ball, and 5 goals and 3 assists is an impressive tally. 7.14 average Fotmob rating, second only to Cabango (7.17), puts him in the top 15 per cent or so in the Championship. However, his defending has been average at best. He simply switches off at times, and fails to make the sort of last ditch challenges that Cabango thrives on. But that hasn't been the case under Sheehan, so it would be a shame to lose him at the point where he may be maturing into an all rounder. I'm sure we will be offering a competitive but realistic wage, we simply can't afford to break the wage structure.

I would like to see Darling stay. Yes he's had a good few howlers but he really improved and got back to his near best under Sheehan.

He's a very competent all rounder and has a good bit if leadership, presence and grunt about him.

For me, he's one of the better centre backs we have had in recent times.
