Harry Darling and Luke Williams

If that's all correct, then signing him for £1m+ and paying him around £20k per week (don't think he's signed a new contract since joining us), is just one more example of the loony way this club has been run in recent years.

Somebody the other day compared us to a smaller version of Man United in how we are run and this would apply to that comparison. We need to be looking for value in the transfer market, not paying a large fee and huge wage relative to the division average for a player from the league below.

If Darling wants anything above the top end of the average wage in this division, then we need to get rid. Ideally for a fee this month if possible. He's probably one of our best players, but that says more about the state of our squad than anything else. He's not one of the best players in his position at this level, so we can't pay him like he is.
I'd sell him now, the only challenge with that is we currently only have Cabango.

The chances of us signing two, three central defenders in this window is highly unlikely which means Darling will probably still be here in February.

I’m constantly amazed by how many people know what football players earn. I suspect that random people on twitter pluck figures out of thin air and those figures somehow become accepted as accurate.

Darling was excellent yesterday and he clearly kept us in the game, without him there we probably would have been at least 3 down at H/T, been excellent most of the season, bar to odd brain fart, Darling and and Cabango are a decent pairing for us and they clearly trust each other, how many times did Darling cover for Christie yesterday who was awful, his pace as gone along with his ability to read the game.

If we can keep Darling then we should do it, but within our means.
It was probably one of his best games for us yesterday and he's clearly the best central defender we have, agreed.

The problem is that doing everything we can to keep players like this is why we're losing money every month as we can't afford it. If it's true that we're paying him anything like £20k per week then he's already on far too much money relative to our financial situation and he's not going to accept a pay decrease in a new contract.

 Probably you're right, but I'm accepting them as roughly accurate for the sake of this discussion. No matter what the exact figures, if Darling is on anything above the league average, it's too much and we should not be looking to sign him to a new contract. If we don't start cutting our cloth accordingly, we're going to end up in a huge mess eventually, unless the new owners are going to be sugar daddy owners a la Birmingham/Bournemouth etc.

Whilst the figures won't be 100% accurate, it is pretty straightforward to make an educated guess.

The information is widely available on the internet for educated people within the industry to come to these conclusions.

Well fans need to respect and accept where we are as a club, because we ain't gonna improve with the players we got and certainly not without players like Darling moving on, in fact we'll probably be closer to the trap door.

I've said it for a long time that we are were we are for a reason and that's because of geographic and financial reason's and I'm not convinced that these new investors and Coleman are going to be chucking money about, I'd be happy if they just improve the current squad which will hopefully improve our first 12/13 playing staff.

Accepted.
Someone reported he was on £19231 which looks like a figure that only Darling and the wages department could possibly know. These are the things that make me laugh.

I'm not saying for one second it has, this figure could have been leaked to the press by someone within the club to show they're doing what they can to sign him up.

That someone was me, is it correct? Couldn't give a fuk...

Pederson is the highest paid player in the squad - unbelievable, how did he get that deal!?

Last minute on deadline day too.
In the last decade, how many players have we signed that haven’t played 10 games for us?
I’m convinced that if it wasn’t for the money from our academy boys, we’d be in League 1 at best.

West brom fans were raving about him yesterday and some were saying that whenever they have seen him play he's acut above the average for this league and is a premier league defender in waiting.

Only way he gets in to the premier league is in a team that get's promoted and that is based on watching him week in week out.
