I am very proud today!

Met a family at a pub at Saundersfoot last Monday and they had a 10 month old Dobe with them what a fantastic dog, I absolutely love Dobermanns, we lost ours about 10yrs ago, I'd love to have another, but unfortunately its not practical at the moment, I'm due to retire in a couple of years so maybe it'll be on then, but I intend to do a few more holidays abroad then, so I'm not sure.

We lasted six months without a dog after we lost our old boy at 17 in August last year. I still miss him terribly and to think of him makes me sad. I’d forgotten how hard the puppy stage is cos frankly Jasper the newbie us a fucking maniac 70% of the time. But we love him and our house is complete again. Dogs are amazing, beautiful things.

We’ve had the same issue, although less of an issue for dogs than bitches cos obviously it’s a less invasive op. She’ll be fine though. How old is she?

The rescue think she's about eighteen months. If I could work the picture thing in here I'd post one. She's got some sort of skin infection, so is constantly scratching and biting herself.

I hope she goes well and settles in. I’m sure she will. You’ve done a great thing, rescuing a dog, not something I’ve ever been brave enough to do. Kudos.

I agree, but with the youngest its hard enough a lot of the time without have to cope with a dog as well especially a pup, I'd go out and buy one tomorrow if it was practical to do so.

Do you know of any local secure fields where your grandog may use, because I think we need something like that because apparently saluki recall is awful!

I get it mate, all situations are different and life doesn’t always allow us to do the things we want to do.🧡

Tom's recall wasn't great but Dan has worked hard with him in a local field here in Bromley and he's got much better. They took him for his first visit to Swansea a couple of months back and he loved the beaches, especially Rhossili (although apparently he had a pee on the Helvetia). Shame I wasn't there to see him cos when he's in full flight it's majestic and being a big boy the sound of his gallop is amazing!

All of this is only based on Dr Google, apparently greyhounds can be called to an extent, but salukis will just go if they see something?

I'd love to let her loose on Rossili (my favourite place in the world), but we'll see!

Again, apparently, they'll go at full pace for up to two miles? That's Burry Holmes to worms head in minutes!

And apologies for hijacking the thread, this is all brand new.

He is a gorgeous boy mind.

I’d never heard of Salukis before so just had a google. Beautiful dogs. But looks tiring.

I'd just walk her and walk her, I had trouble with my Maxy by letting him off the lead, the bugger wouldn't comeback, he'd do as he was told at home, but as soon as he saw space and we let him off it was chaos, got in a few situations where he got involved with other dogs as well, not great, eventually we saw sense and took him to a trainer, and his recommendation was just to walk him and walk him, the theory behind it was for his health first and foremost, because he'd just burst into energy and just keep going, which was detrimental to his wellbeing, so we ended up just walking him, but ironically he dropped dead which what we assumed was a cardiac arrest sadly, but he lived well past the age of 11 which is good for Dobes.

6 year old ex racer from Ireland. Ran about 80 races mainly in the Midlands and won a few. Rescued by my son Dan and his partner a little over a year ago. He's the most gentle soul and a pleasure to be around!

We rescued a Saluki this week. Our first dog, think we've bitten off more than we can chew!

Or he or she has bitten off more than they can chew. Aren't Salukis quite big? And charming but a little bit stupid, like Holly Willoughby?

Neither had we until we met her, but as you know (and I've come to realise), you don't choose them.

Ffs, I've turned in to a dog person.
