MrSwerve said:Also, it’s madness to think that we were promoted to the Premier League 8 years later! Standing on the north bank that night with the rain pissing down, the PL was another World. Hearing half time scores of the Man Utds, Liverpools, etc...crazy that we were there not long after.

If someone had said after that game what the next 18 years would bring us you'd have been carried off to the Cockett Lighthouse.

Football can also go so quickly in cycles, we've done well given where we are financially to remain in the divisions top 10

This is why I get so frustrated with so called fans rubbishing our manager, saying how things are bad!!!
We have ben in far worse situations with worse performances brands of football and results. We are currently again in reset mode following ownership change, leadership change and relegation. The last time we fell from the top tier we dropped through the leagues like a stone here we are in our 3rd season follwoing dropping out of the PL competing at the top of the Acjampionship. It is imperative we do not drop to L! so OI can understand that the managers priority is results over style.....but I beleive as was demonstrated on Tuesday and at other times over the last 12 months syle ( the Swansea way) is key too but given the level of player turnover we have seen since relegation the manager has had a lot to get to grips with especailly as a league clum management rookie. COmpare that as many do with Martinez ;s arrival here as a rookie where he knew the majority of the squad their capalities inline with his vision and we were in L1 so little to lose all to gain.
We have no divine right to be a top team we had some grrest years a s we rose from the ashes we need to ensure the heghts we need to scale to return to the top flight are less this time and be patieint

When you look back, after the hissy fits myself and many others threw after Coventry, really look back you realise that the kind of drabness we saw in Coventry wasn't in the top 500 of poor performances over the past 40 odd years.
I'll put my hands up, the reaction to Coventry wasn't warranted. Don't blame me, blame modern football and the entitled supporters it creates. It sucks you right in and spits you right out again.
Covid, and not being there, seems to amplify everything that's bad and subdues everything that's good. Compared to this current situation I'd take standing on a cold terrace, fingers freezing and feet numb, watching a crap performance with open arms. With open bleeding arms.

I've said many times at events that if someone had said to me when we beat Hull that it would be 8 years to the top flight, 10 years to Europe, major trophy in the cabinet I would have happily carted them off and sought help for their ongoing wellbeing.
It's also mad to think that this season is our 13th successive one in the top two divisions - each of them finishing 10th or above in the second tier
We have had a longer post war run in this division but we were always in the bottom half (bar a couple of seasons)
