If we get a competent right back then Ronald's defensive qualities (not that they are that good) won't be needed.

Ronald is a fraud - he's got no pace, he can't cross the ball and he rarely beats his man and his lack of defensive awareness has contributed to Key's alarming decline. Inoussa should start.

Not sure you can blame Ronald for the decline of Key...lack of pace, first touch and general awareness of Key sits with the coaches.

Having someone like Ronald in front of you on a weekly basis is going to have some impact on you.

With Inoussa its just down to confidence I think.
I would question his fitness levels though, against West Brom he started really well but looked knackered early in the second half
Most if not all of the starters in the squad are unfit for this division. Those who only play bit parts must be even worse off. Give Matos time he will sort that issue out at least .

I know I date myself - but the likes of Clough and Ferguson picked defenders who could defend and attackers who attacked.
A famous left back who liked to bomb forward was told by Clough "if you want to play that way you will battle for the 11 jersey - you won't ever be wearing the 3".
Fast forward to 2025 - we have Ronald who is picked because he 'puts in a shift defensively", and Key - who literally cannot defend at all. There is a commentary on Ronald's err "qualities" in this thread - and I would add his absolute unwillingness to learn or apply the offside law.
As for Key...as a football coach - everything is wrong with this boy:
His starting position gifts his winger the time to get the ball under control and attack him with pace
His body position puts him off balance when a winger runs at him - that is why he often looks flat footed
He gets muscled off the ball way too easily
Worst of all - he has no appreciation of danger, or anticipation. When he came on at Stoke, his singular job was to neutralise the threat of Sorba Thomas. 30 seconds later, not only did he not get close to him - he had absolutely no idea where he was!
IF it was me - I would play a defensively sound player at RB - Casey is screaming for attention here- and then play Innoussa ahead of him with instructions to take the opposition on and use his pace and trickery.
On the other flank I would persevere with Tymon and Eom - and Play Widell in place of Cullen.
Such an easy job.

Not sure how Ronald can be blamed for Keys performance. Key is unable to defend and those crosses on the weekend was horrendous.

I thought Widdell assisted for Vipotnik was as good as you’ll see. First time and inch perfect. A strikers dream which none of our wingers have given him since he came here.

This is a very valid point.

It's the first time this season we've seen a wide player do their day job properly. Which is quite scandalous when you think about it

See my post above - absolutely Ronald is getting blamed for his own performances.
If he was from Brynamman rather than Brazil he would have been benched long ago.
