Jacob Wright - £4m

You know as well as I do what the January transfer window is like.
No one wants to weaken their squad in January, normally one of two things happen:

1. Someone comes in with a big bid worth more than you can turn down
2. Player gets their head turned with offers of more wages and asks to leave

We are not in a position to realistically offer either of those scenarios to other players.

As a result we might have players identified but unless those clubs source replacements and the clubs they are buying from source THEIR replacements we are not at the top of the food chain like we used to be when we still had plentiful Premier League cash in the coffers.

If those clubs didn't get any of THEIR identified targets then they would be unwilling to accept any bids from us which forces us onto plans B, C, D, etc

We don't have a transparent view of what has happened over all of January in the transfer window as far as the club is concerned and its incredibly unlikely that would ever change unless the club becomes 100% fan owned again.
Grimes should have never have been sold
Unless a replacement was signed on the dotted line. Complete amateur stuff

Don't buy into this position of where we are. Millwall have signed 7, Luton 8 , Oxford 6. Hull 7 Plymouth 5

They might all be crap of course, but we do have a problem getting our deals done. That’s irrefutable.

So either our targets are completely unrealistic (shit scouting) or we’re rubbish when it comes to doing a deal with agents and winning over players.

What can you do when the player asks to leave?

Everyone knows its always an awful idea to force a player to stay who wants out, especially when its someone as influential (for better or worse) as the club captain.

By all accounts the bid was in for Wright and terms agreed. He has changed his mind last minute and its left us in the lurch, it sucks but as soon as Grimes asked to leave it was always going to happen.

Have other replacements lined up if a deal falls through.
It's not rocket science

And right now you are making an assumption that that isn't what has happened and that we are anywhere near the top of our list of where we started. Just like I am making the assumption that we are quite a long way down said hypothetical list.

We won't know what happened in truth unless Coleman comes out and lays it out for us (which he won't)

No offence, but Coleman - like Kaplan before him - relies on people like you playing devil's advocate for him.

Jesus Christ, how much evidence do people like you actually need?

Have they got to be caught embezzling club funds? Filmed pissing on the Ivor statue?

What's it going to take? Seriously?

Not so much playing devil's advocate as looking at the bigger picture.

There is no denying that right now the club is sick, seriously sick with a disease that had been allowed to fester for over a decade.

To continue that analogy even once you treat the disease the symptoms don't immediately disappear neither does the body instantly recover to full strength.

Expecting a strong transfer window this January is the equivalent of expecting said patient to jump off from his death bed and do the cucaracha.

I have been critical of Coleman on several occasions but this transfer window when the man has been running just about every major part of the club by himself is not the right stick to beat him with. If you believe what's been written elsewhere a director of football is expected into the club end of March / beginning of April after he works his notice at his current role.

Anyway I am off to bed and will judge just how terminally ill the patient called "Swansea City squad 2024/2025 season" is when I wake up.

But it's his fault and his conceited arrogance that he's been running (a very fucking loose term) every major part of the club by himself. I'm surprised he hasn't named himself as new manager.

A Coleman who for the past four years has been hamstrung by Kaplan and Levein being the ones in charge of the purse strings. By many accounts a lot of the more promising deals that had been lined up were scuppered because they refused to endorse them.

The Darling situation is also one that can firmly be put at their feet and nothing to do with Coleman who was ultimately just the public facing target while they asset stripped as much of the club as they could before calling it quits.

While Coleman does have a lot that can be laid at his feet, his conduct in trying to get the Wright deal over the line is not one of them. The reality is that due to the better part of a decade of mismanagement at the highest levels of the club right now our financial situation is one where we either are left picking at the scraps or they are deals where we have no choice but to keep everything quiet until the deal is done.

The latter was the case with the Wright deal, no one had any clue about it until Man City had accepted our bid and terms were allegedly agreed with the player. That this all came into the public domain after that leads me to one conclusion:

The player either got cold feet or his advisors told him they could get him a better deal or a better club elsewhere. Man City had already accepted the bid so it wouldn't benefit them to put the deal out in the public domain neither would it benefit us. The only party left involved who had anything to gain or any motive was the player and/or his advisors.

Anyone who gets pissed at Coleman for this is just blinkered or throwing eggs at him just for the sake of it/out of habit
This whole shitshow is on him! You can sing Andy Coleman’s Black & White Army, in every one of your 36000 paragraphs, but it won’t change the fact that he is killing an already dying football club.

Coleman OUT!

A team couple of points from play offs with a stronger squad of a team spiralling towards relegation with a depleted squad . No briainer for him

I can't believe people are here defending Andy Coleman.

5 transfer windows since he turned up now isn't it? Each one exactly the same. I'd be prepared to put one down to bad luck.

What posters are defending him?

I am all for giving someone a length of time to prove themselves but the disastrous window of last summer, this window and the appointment of Paul Watson are beyond undefendable and are actions of a guy who doesn't know his arse from his elbow in this game.

I'm sure there are many reasons why we couldn't get deals over the line, January is a very hard time to do business after all.

Let's wait and see what Coleman's plans are for the summer window, he'll be telling us in the next few days.

I have no doubt that contracts are being prepared for Salah, Van Dijk, Haaland and Caicedo. Unfortunately, although those deals will be lined up ready to be completed when the window opens, the players will all change their minds. We will have tried very hard though, after all, the summer is also a very hard time to do business

For the record I have not been supporting him just trying to put things into possible context.
A small part playing devil's advocate yes but I am far from a Coleman apologist.

That said having had a chance to let the transfer window settle and take a look at the immediate aftermath Coleman has indeed run out of excuses. Two loan signings in, one permanent signing (who was loaned back to his club) and two permanent sales out has left us extremely lightweight in midfield.

The only possible saving grace I can see is that the money we didn't spend in the window we can use to get rid of Luke and get in someone who has a clue.

In any case Coleman is going to be having a very uncomfortable week or so, he painted a target on his back and hasn't delivered in any fashion. He will have to answer to the fans at the fans forum coming soon and will have to answer to the new owners who no doubt will also be unimpressed.

He should have been given an ultimatum to sign while he was here so that we had time to move onto other targets, instead of putting in a desperate bid a couple of hours before the window closes. We've had our pants pulled down by a 19 year old, Coleman's naivety is unforgivable.
